School Council Report
School Council Report – December 2023
Here are the highlights from the School Council Meeting held on Monday 4 December 2023.
Transition to TeamKids
Council spoke about the transition planning that had commenced with our new Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) provider, TeamKids, who will commence services from Monday 8 January with their holiday program.
TeamKids introductory webinar for parents (held on 5 December), coffee van booked (for 15 December) and their interest in being involved in school events in 2024 was welcomed by Council.
Council acknowledged and thanked outgoing provider OSHClub for taking care of our students and families over many years.
School Events for 2024
The Social Club presented a proposed calendar of school events for 2024 that was supported in-principle by Council. The event calendar was developed following meetings and discussion with members of the Social Club and other interested parent volunteers in recent months. Council agreed in-principle to the following:
- Much loved school events will return in 2024 – here’s looking at you Welcome picnic, Foundation Social Night, Trivia Night & End of Year Picnic!
- Two new morning tea events will be introduced to recognise and celebrate 1) our awesome parent volunteers and 2) our amazing teachers and office staff.
- Year level social events – optional events for parents to attend, held away from school.
- Mother’s Day/Father’s Day/Special Persons breakfasts will not be held in 2024 (unless a particularly keen parent and/or group of parents wants to volunteer to run them!)
- Art4All and the Fair will be combined in 2024, with key Fair elements built into the Art4All Family Day, making it the one major school event the school holds each calendar year. (Note, the decision to combine Art For All and the Fair was originally made by School Council at the 4 September 2023 meeting).
Further details regarding the planned 2024 school events, along with a call out for parents to coordinate and support events, will be communicated early in Term 1.
Policy Update
The Policy Committee advised on four school policies that were reviewed at their November meeting.
- Yard Duty Policy – minor changes in line with Department of Education advice.
- Asthma Policy – changed to include children experiencing asthma for the first time.
- Visitor’s policy – Minor changes to make clearer context and definitions of ‘child related work’. These visitors must have a WWCC.
- Home Learning Policy – no changes were made but this policy will be discussed at the Policy Committee’s first meeting in 2024.
