Principal's Report

Recent Events & Highlights

So much has happened since our last newsletter a couple of weeks ago, that we couldn’t let the end of the year go by without sharing what the students have been up to. There has been something special on nearly every day, and multiple events on some of the days.

  • Our Swimming Carnival was a splashing success! We sent approximately 300 students to WaterMarc, as our Year 3 – 6s had a fabulous time competing and socialising in and around the pool. Well done to all involved, including parent volunteers, and Geoff, our PE coordinator for running the event.
  • The FPS Choir, Concert Band and Brass group entertained a joyful crowd at the Festive Concert in the Old Hall. We are so lucky to have talented musicians and singers share their talents with us.
  • Unfortunately the weather a couple of Fridays ago was in the ‘extreme’ category. The high winds meant that the students stayed in at lunchtime, and that we had to cancel our End of Year Picnic. Don’t worry it’s not too long ‘til the next picnic (probably also to get cancelled due to weather!).
  • Our Foundation students put on their risk taking faces as they donned a harness and scaled the walls on their rock climbing excursion at Activate.
  • Last Thursday saw a line of buses outside our school gates as Year 1 went on a trip back in time on their excursion to Cooper's Settlement, and Year 3 put their feet up at Westgarth Cinema as they watched a showing of ‘Wish’.
  • Our Year 4 students who took part in the French Poetry Competition, got to enjoy the serene settings of the staff room with a hot chocolate, croissant and the sounds of jazz playing in the background.
  • Our Foundation showcased their talents this morning to the watchful eyes of their proud families, sharing their joyful experiences from the year.
  • All students have taken part in the Meet the Teacher session; familiarising themselves with their 2024 teacher, classroom and classmates.

Year 5/6 Concert – Porridge

What a memorable evening the Year 5/6 students created through their performance of ‘Porridge’. There was a buzz in the theatre as the audience took their seats and were treated to an evening of fast-paced comedy and drama, along with musical and dancing thrills and spills.

There was so much to admire about the concert. The confidence and enjoyment that the students showed when under the lights was a joy to see. The music, props, costumes, lighting and script combined perfectly and with great effect.

Congratulations to our students on their efforts. Thank you to the many parent volunteers who assisted in different ways, and an acknowledgement to the teachers for their support. A final thank you to our Performing Arts teacher, Olivia, whose attention to detail enabled the magic to happen!

School Community Leaders & Specialist Captains

I am very pleased to be able to share with you our 2024 School Community Leaders and Specialist Captains. The Year 5 students were given the opportunity to prepare and present a speech, with the Year 4 and 5 students casting the votes.

The standard was very high, and out of the approximate 60 students who put themselves forward to be nominated, the 11 students below were selected.

Specialist Captains

  • Art - Grace J
  • French - Savane
  • Performing Arts - Billy
  • PE - Sadie
  • Science - Heather

Community Leaders

We look forward to introducing our new leaders at our Welcome Assembly next year.

Farewell Year 6 Students

We have of course one more special event to look forward to (or two, if you include tomorrow’s Year 5/6 excursion to Funfields!). Tonight we are celebrating our Year 6 students graduating from primary school. This is always a special event in the calendar, and I am sure that the evening will be one to remember.

The end of the school year is particularly significant for Year 6. It is a time where they look forward to the adventures of high school, but also look back on the unique and wonderful times that primary school has brought. We thank the students for their efforts, learning, curiosity, fun, personality and charisma during their time at FPS. We wish them all of the best for high school.

Departing Families

Leaving primary school is not only a landmark in the lifetime of the student, but also for their parents and families. We are saying farewell to a number of families at the end of this year (including those in younger years who are relocating). We are grateful for the support that these families have given to our school over the years and we wish them well in their next chapter.

End of Year Assembly

All families are invited to attend our final assembly of the year; Wednesday at 9am at the Fig Tree Courtyard.

This is where we say farewell to our Year 6 students and also get to see one of their Graduation performances.

Happy Holidays

Thank you to all the parents for the support that you  have given your children and the school this year.

Thank you staff for your dedication, support, compassion and enthusiasm that you always display.

Well done and thank you to all of our students for all of your amazing efforts. You rock!
