Junior School Production of TheWizard of Oz

On Tuesday 17 and Thursday 19 September, the Years 5 and 6 students brought the beloved characters of The Wizard of Oz to life, lighting up the stage of Dalton Hall.

After working diligently throughout Term 3 to perfect their singing, choreography and acting, the cast delivered a captivating performance to an enthralled audience!

Here are two accounts from cast members' of their experience of the show.

Dante Di Felice, Year 6 (the Wizard), Daniel Kwon, Year 6 (Toto) and Otis Fifoot, Year 6 (Lion)

Last semester, Years 5 and 6 students had the exciting chance to audition for lead roles in The Wizard of Oz. It was an amazing experience that we’ll remember for a long time!

Whether we had acted before or it was our first time, everyone learned something new, from the auditions to rehearsals, and then finally performing on stage. The choreography was detailed yet easy to follow, so we could really enjoy being our characters.

All in all, this experience was unforgettable and has inspired us to see acting in a whole new light!

Holly Krischock, Year 6 (Glinda) and Emily Shao, Year 6 (Wicked Witch of the West)

During this year’s Junior School Production of The Wizard of Oz, we had the exciting opportunity to play the two witches — Glinda, the Good Witch of the South (played by Holly) and the Wicked Witch of the West (played by Emily).

Opening night started with a bang as Year 6 student Alice Luo, who played Dorothy, sang the enchanting song 'Over the Rainbow.' Soon after, Dorothy arrived in Munchkinland and met us, the two witches!

Glinda made a magical entrance, singing a lovely melody, while the Munchkins welcomed Dorothy with a catchy tune. The happy atmosphere quickly changed when the Wicked Witch surprised the audience with a loud cackle, grabbing everyone’s attention!

Throughout the show, the audience got a taste of the Wicked Witch's mischief, as she tried to capture Dorothy to get the ruby slippers. She left the stage with a powerful scream that made a big impression! Then Glinda returned to help Dorothy finally find her way home.

On the final night, the crowd erupted in cheers as we took our bows. This magical experience made us feel so special and showed us that all our hard work really paid off. We can’t wait to see what next year’s production will be like!
