The next chapter for our Year 12s
Our journey through primary and secondary school is finite. At some point, we will say our goodbyes, leaving behind our legacy for others to continue and shape their own.
For some members of staff, their time at school can span decades and their impact on generations of students profound. For our students, although it may feel like a lifetime to them, their time at school is short relative to their entire lives. This reminds us that we are custodians of the culture and spirit of a school while we are part of it, whether as a member of staff or a student.
It's so special that over many decades, students at Kilvington have been involved in similar activities that help to build culture and spirit. Annual events such as House Swimming and associated House Cheers, Athletics and Performing Arts, along with school productions and music concerts, have been in existence for many years.
The names and faces change over the years as new groups of students take over the organisation and participation, but the essence of the events remain the same. Students in the 1940s and 1950s derived the same enjoyment out of them as the students of today.
And thus, we now turn our attention to the class of 2024, as their school days come to an end and they begin to focus on their world beyond. They are a wonderful group of young people who have left a positive mark on the School. They endured remote learning through much of Years 8 and 9, and unfortunately this curtailed their Year 9 expeditions and other Impact Program activities.
Regardless, they have made the most of the ensuing years embracing leadership opportunities, mentoring younger students and enjoying a plethora of student experiences.
What is heart-warming is their genuine connection as a cohort. I look forward to enjoying their Valedictory celebrations and wish them all the very best for their final exams. Upon finishing school, they will always be Kilvonians and I hope that they stay in touch with their old school in the future.
Welcome to Term 4
As we approach the end of what has been a wonderful 2024, there is much to look forward to in the coming weeks and months. It is always a busy time for teachers and students alike as we head towards Celebration Night on November 21, along with the other end-of-year functions.
Adding to the excitement of the end of year is the imminent completion of the building works that initially commenced in September 2021. The completed works will see the Middle School block connect The HIVE and administration block across two levels, providing students with newly refurbished classroom spaces. Access to the renovated science laboratories means that we can soon commence work on the old laboratories, which will be converted to a modern, well-equipped cafeteria.
We're also thrilled to announce the completion of the refresh of our junior play area, Discovery Grove, which is now open for students to enjoy.
I wish everyone well for Term 4, and look forward to catching up at a number of events and functions throughout the term!
