Mark Alexander - SIS and House Sport Co-ordinator

We welcome back all students at St John's and prepare them for a big term of upcoming sports in Term 1. Following are the activities to look forward to:

On Friday February 23 all students will travel to Doveton Pool to participate in the House Aquatics Carnival. This full day is filled with lots of fun in the water and allowing students to show off their swimming skills in a variety of strokes and games. Students have the opportunity to sign up for events next week.

The following week is HPE week (Week 5) and will be the launch of the Inter-Homeroom Volleyball competition that will run for a couple of months. Last year saw the opening of this competition held at lunchtime with CO2 eventually winning the grand final.

The term will finish off with the House Cross Country in Week 9. Again, allowing students to gain points for their House as they run/jog/walk a 2.8km track.

Also, in Term 1, we have plenty of SIS sports available to students to sign up for including Senior Girls Basketball (coached by Ms Alice Liu), Senior Boys Indoor Cricket (Mr Mark Alexander), Senior Boys Soccer (Mr Paul Boswell, Mr Paul O’Loughlin, Mr Justin Chungue), Intermediate Boys Handball (Mr Paul Boswell) and Intermediate Girls Volleyball (Ms Anna Nguyen). Good luck to all teams representing the college over the weekly sports in Term 1.

SIS Swimming Training will also be happening in March at Dandenong Oasis for those who are keen to represent the school in the SIS Swimming Carnival in Week 2 of Term 2.

On behalf of St John's I would like to welcome our new sports assistant, Mr Justin Chungue, who will be working throughout the year helping run sport events, SIS events and even coaching particular teams. Welcome Justin.
