HeadStart School Based Apprenticeships & Traineeships Information Session – 18th June

Students recently attended a Head Start information session to learn about the exciting opportunities available through the School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBAT) program.

Head Start allows students to combine their senior secondary studies with paid part-time employment and industry training, providing valuable real-world experience while working towards their VCE, VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM.  Students develop industry skills, gain nationally recognised qualifications, earn an income, and build strong pathways into future employment, apprenticeships, traineeships, and further study.

The session highlighted a wide range of industry areas available through the program, including construction, automotive, engineering, hospitality, horticulture, community services, childcare, allied health, hairdressing, retail, warehousing, and more. Students also learned about the commitment required to balance school, work, and training, and the importance of responsibility, organisation, resilience, and motivation.

Since 2019, more than 2,000 students across Melbourne’s eastern region have participated in Head Start SBAT programs, with over 90% achieving successful outcomes, including transitioning into full-time apprenticeships, traineeships, employment, or further education.

Thank you to our guest speakers Loretta Goldsmith, Director & Hannah Broughan, Coordinator, Eastern Metro Melbourne Hub, for providing valuable insights into these opportunities.

Students interested in exploring a Head Start pathway are encouraged to make a time to speak with the Ms Jakubicki to discuss potential work trials and next steps. Selection criteria will apply.  To learn more about the Head Start program click HERE

International Students Explore Pathways Beyond School

Our international students recently attended an informative presentation delivered by SW Education, designed to support Year 12 students as they prepare for tertiary study in 2027 and beyond.

The session provided valuable guidance on the university application process through VTAC, choosing courses and universities, understanding ATAR requirements, scholarship opportunities, and student visa requirements. Students also learned about alternative pathway options, including foundation studies and diploma programs, which can provide additional routes into university degrees.

The presentation highlighted a range of popular study areas for international students, including Business, Engineering, Information Technology, Health Sciences, Education, and Architecture, while encouraging students to consider their interests, strengths, career goals, and future opportunities when making decisions about further study.

The information session equipped students with practical knowledge and resources to help them confidently plan their post-school pathways and make informed decisions about their future.Top of Form
