Now available on SchoolTV - Drinking & Alcohol

Alcohol is one of the most commonly used substances among young people, making it an important topic for families to address early and often. From the primary years onwards, children are exposed to messages about alcohol through social situations, media and online content. Starting age-appropriate conversations early can help build healthy attitudes, strengthen trust and make later discussions during adolescence easier and more effective.

As children grow older, curiosity, peer influence and increasing independence can increase the likelihood of experimentation. Research shows that strong family communication, clear expectations and positive role modelling are key protective factors in helping young people make safer and healthier choices.

This edition of SchoolTV explores the impact of alcohol on children and adolescents and offers practical strategies to help families navigate this important topic with confidence and care.

Host Families Needed for Japanese Student Exchange Visit

Monday 3 August – Wednesday 12 August (9 nights)

Applecross Senior High School is excited to welcome a group of visiting students from The Japanese School Singapore this August—and we’re looking for friendly, supportive host families to be part of this special cultural exchange.

Hosting an exchange student is a truly rewarding experience, offering your family the chance to discover a new culture, build global connections, and create lasting international friendships. It’s also a wonderful way to help both students and families develop valuable cross-cultural communication skills while opening your home to a unique and enriching experience.

What’s Involved in Being a Host Family?

As a host, you will:

  • Provide a comfortable bed and meals, and include your visitor in your everyday family life
  • Pick up your student from school on arrival, and return them to school at the end of their stay
  • Know that students will be attending Applecross SHS during school days throughout the visit
  • Receive a payment to help cover hosting expenses
  • Have access to 24/7 bilingual support, provided by DOA—ensuring both you and your student feel supported at all times

How to Get Involved

This visit is coordinated by DOA Perth, the inbound tour operator facilitating the program. If you’re interested in hosting or would like to learn more, please get in touch:

Jenni Wilson📞 0419 901 867

📧 jwilson.doa@gmail.com (Please include “Applecross SHS” in the subject line of your email)

Register Now

We encourage interested families to register as soon as possible so arrangements can be finalised well ahead of the students’ arrival.

Your support plays a vital role in making this meaningful and enriching school program a success—for both our visiting students and the Applecross SHS community.

SEQTA Access Ending – Please Download Documents

As part of Program Kaartdijin, all public schools are transitioning to Compass Education. While this new platform brings many benefits, it is not compatible with SEQTA. As a result, our school will conclude its use of SEQTA, with parent access to SEQTA ceasing on 19 July (the final day of the Term 2 holidays).

We are working to transfer key information into the new system wherever possible. If you wish to download and save copies of important documents currently stored in SEQTA (e.g. Semester Reports, NAPLAN, OLNA), please do so before 19 July 2026.

Please note that school staff are not available during the holidays to provide assistance. If you need help accessing or downloading these documents, please contact Applecross.SHS.AdminComputing@education.wa.edu.au

before the end of Term 2 (3 July 2026)

Thank you for your support in managing this transition.

Unpaid School Fees

We’d like to remind families that some student accounts still have outstanding charges for the 2026 school year. These contributions play a vital role in supporting classroom resources, excursions, and the learning programs our students enjoy every day. If you haven’t yet finalised payment, we kindly ask that you do so at your earliest convenience. Families needing support or a payment plan are encouraged to contact the finance office—our team is always happy to help.
