Preps 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt "

What a week it has been for our newest Great Ryrie learners.

Our Preps have been very busy searching high and low for the Little Green Sheep around the school, heading off on treasure hunts, going on Bear Hunts,  learning where everything is, and bravely beginning their first full days. There have been lots of smiles, a few tired eyes, and perhaps one or two children who briefly wondered if kinder might have been a little less exhausting!

Starting school is a big event. New routines are being established, friendships are forming, and confidence is growing each day.

Hang in there, Preps (and Prep families) the real learning journey begins next week now that everyone knows where the toilets are and how to line up like professionals. We are so proud of you. So many “firsts” this fortnight

Well done, Preps, you are already shining.

Celebrating Our 2026 Year 6 Leaders

We were very proud to present our Year 6 leaders with their badges at a special assembly run by our School Captains. The ceremony was thoughtful and inspiring.

A special thank you to our Science and Technology Captains for assisting with the video presentation, and to our wonderful office team for organising a delicious morning tea to celebrate the occasion.

Each of our captains spoke beautifully about their leadership aspirations for the year ahead. Importantly, they reminded us all that you do not need a badge to be a leader. Every student can demonstrate leadership through their actions as a role model, a mentor, and a positive example to others each and every day.

Thank You – Getting to Know You Interviews

Thank you to all parents and carers who attended our recent Getting to Know You Interviews. These conversations are invaluable in helping us understand your child as a learner and as an individual.

We concluded last night with our EAL interviews, which were a great success.

Thank you to Mrs Clarke and the team for their wonderful organisation and support.

Parking & Back Gates – A Gentle Reminder

Parking is always busy around our school. A reminder that:

  • The bottom car park is for parents and visitors.
  • The top car park is for staff only.
  • School gates close at approximately 8:55am once the first bell goes.

Our new School Captains are currently establishing new routines with gate duties. I understand there was some frustration expressed when gates were not opened exactly on time. Please be patient as our student leaders learn their responsibilities and they are doing their best.

The back gates remain locked during the day for the safety of our children. If you arrive after gates close, or for some reason they have not been opened in the afternoon, it is a short walk down Kitson Street to the front gates.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school safe.

Digital Parenting: Safety & Screen Time

When: Wednesday, 25th February

  • Face-to-face: 2:00pm–3:30pm
  • Online: 6:00pm–7:30pm

Our upcoming Digital Parenting sessions are so important to attend.

Our children are often more confident on devices than we are, and it is important that we stay informed about potential risks, online behaviours, and ways to support safe digital use at home. We strongly encourage you to attend.

Junior School Council Representatives

Our Junior School Council representatives have now been announced. This is an important leadership role, working with students, teachers and school leaders to help make our school an even better place. They will receive their badges next Friday morning at assembly.

We look forward to seeing their ideas in action.

Don’t Forget the Year Level Pages

Each year level page in this newsletter has information about the start to the year, learning updates, and photographs capturing these early moments. We encourage all parents and carers to take a look, you might even spot your child!

What a start to the year, so many firsts, so much excitement, and already so much to celebrate.

Enjoy your weekend with family and friends

Warm Regards
