Geelong Cats Q&A Session

On Wednesday we had the pleasure of hosting Tom Atkins, Oliver Henry and James Worpel from the Geelong Cats for an engaging Q&A session with our Senior School students.

Students asked a wide range of thoughtful questions and gained insight into life as a professional footballer, both on and off the field. Following the session, students also had the opportunity to have merchandise signed by the players.

He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.” - Mathew 13:31-32

Food Tech

Food Technology is well and truly underway, and it has been a busy and exciting start to the year in the kitchen! Students have been exploring the space, learning routines, and building confidence as they get to know how our kitchen works.

Each week, students cook a different recipe with a focus on a specific skill such as chopping, sautéing, measuring, mixing, or using equipment safely. These hands-on lessons are all about developing practical life skills while having fun and trying new foods along the way.

Recipes are uploaded to Google Classroom each week so students can recreate them at home, and I absolutely love seeing this happen. Families are warmly invited to send in photos of recipes made at home, these can be emailed to arobinson@kings.vic.edu.au and are always a highlight to share in class. Students will also receive a hard copy of all their recipes to bring home at the end of the semester.

Cooking days by year level:

  • Year 6 – Mondays
  • Year 7 – Wednesdays
  • Year 8 – Thursdays
  • Year 9/10 – Fridays

Please ensure your child brings a container to school on their cooking day so they can bring some food home to share with you. If you happen to have any spare ice-cream tubs that are finished with, we would be very grateful to have them as backups for students who forget their containers.

Thank you for your ongoing support, it’s wonderful to see students so engaged and enthusiastic in Food Technology already this year!
