Prep E
The Preps have started off well. They are learning the classroom expectations really well and the friendships are coming along nicely. They have also spent time with the Year 6s and as of next week will have a buddy for the year.
They had a picnic with their named teddies at lunch time on Monday. They have made some letters with Playdough, learnt about their families and drawn them. All in all it has been a great week. Well done Preps and keep it up.

Prep G
The Preps have had a fantastic first week of school! Mrs Elmes and myself are so proud of how well everyone has settled in, made friends, learned school routines and engaged in classroom activities.
The first day of school for Preps was a fun and exciting day as students brought in their King's koalas for a teddy bear picnic. We made teddy bear name tags, had our first music and art class, and decorated our first day of school crowns.
There has been lots to learn throughout the week. Prep G have done beautifully with learning how we line up and walk through the hallways. We have begun learning letter sounds and how to form our letters, we've practised cutting and colouring skills, and are learning about numbers up to 10.
In Humanities we started learning about families - students drew and labelled a picture of their family members. On Thursday, Prep G had their first visit to the Library. Mrs Nield read a funny story to the class, and students choose books to borrow for home.
Across the week we have also spent time with our Year 6 buddies! The Year 6s have been very keen to meet and help our preppies; they've been wonderful role models and leaders. Our first buddy-time was spent in the Library. Year 6 got to know the two Prep classes and read stories to them, and then joined us for lunch. Later in the week, Year 6 brought out their dance moves as they taught the Preps some of the songs we often sing at Chapel. We are very excited to spend more time together throughout the year and look forward to continuing to see our wonderful Year 6s engaging so well with their buddies.

Year 1
What a wonderful start we have had in Year 1! The children have settled beautifully into their new classroom, learning routines, exploring our learning space, and getting to know one another. It has been a joy to welcome new friends into our class and see friendships begin to grow.
Our days have been filled with fun activities, curiosity, and lots of smiles as the children engage with their learning. One of the most exciting moments so far was a very special visitor to our playground - a koala! The children watched in amazement as it jumped into the trees, climbed up high, jumped back down again, then ran to another tree before making its way down to the oval. It was such a memorable and joyful experience that had everyone buzzing with excitement.
We are thankful to God for such a positive beginning to the year and for the many moments of wonder He provides, both in our classroom and beyond. We are so excited for the year ahead and look forward to seeing the children grow in confidence, kindness, and learning. We hope our koala friend decides to visit us again soon - and that this year continues to be full of joy and discovery in Year 1!

Year 2
What a wonderful first few days Year 2 have had! Miss Johnson and I have loved sharing holiday stories, playing games and getting to know our new students. We have also enjoyed welcoming Zayn into our class and to our King's College community.
We began our year looking at 1 Thessalonians 5:11 which say 'Therefore encourage one another and build each other up'. Students were exposed to a very dangerous and scary thing... the human tongue! We examined all the ways our words can be used to build others up or to tear them down and how God wants us to choose our words carefully to praise him and to encourage others.
We went outside and Miriam and Jack H squeezed out a whole tube of toothpaste (very messy work!) then Zayn, Sorcha and Ollie had to try and spoon all the toothpaste back into the tube - we quickly learnt that this was impossible! Just like the words that come out of our mouth, once it's out there it's so hard to take it back. Well done to all the Year 2 class for working together and building each other up!

Year 3
Year 3 has had a wonderful start to the year as we settle into new routines and enjoy our updated Dojo system, already thinking about how we might spend our hard-earned points. We’ve also warmly welcomed three new students to our class, and thanks to the kindness of their classmates, Shaayra, Lynden, and Evelyn have quickly become valued members of our classroom community.
The children have loved making our freshly painted, newly carpeted classroom feel even more welcoming with their work on display, as well as taking advantage of the playground just outside our door and visiting the library to explore the new books available to borrow.
We have started the year learning about growth mindset and discovering that our brains are like muscles - the more we practise, the stronger they become. We have explored how making mistakes is not something to fear, but an important and valuable part of learning.
Students have been encouraged to notice what helps them learn best as individuals, whether that’s taking brain breaks, asking questions, trying a new strategy, or simply having another go. It has been wonderful to see the children building confidence, resilience, and a willingness to challenge themselves as they grow in both their learning and their understanding of how their amazing brains work.

Swimming
Our Year 4 students enjoyed a fantastic day at Aquazone on Friday 30th January, where they had the opportunity to practice their swimming skills in preparation for their very first Swimming Carnival. The students were full of enthusiasm, eager to learn, and excited to challenge themselves in the water. We can't wait to see them in action next Friday.

Science
In Science, Year 4 students have been learning about force and motion. They made some paper boomerangs and participated in a series of experiments to test Newton’s laws of motion… including an egg drop experiment!
