In Term 1, Year 6 students will explore the Victorian Mathematics Curriculum 2.0, developing strong number sense, fluency with operations, reasoning skills, and the ability to apply mathematics in real-world contexts.
Number & Algebra: Students will consolidate place value, work with whole numbers, decimals, factors, multiples, and squared numbers. They will explore patterns, apply the distributive law, use formulas, and practise problem-solving with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Measurement & Space: Students will select and convert metric units, calculate perimeter, area, and, where appropriate, volume. They will investigate shapes, their properties, and spatial reasoning, including creating scaled representations of real spaces.
Statistics & Probability: Students will collect, represent, and interpret data using tables, graphs, and the Cartesian plane. They will calculate averages, interpret trends, and explore chance in practical contexts.
Throughout the term, students will explain their thinking, justify solutions, and use mathematical language confidently. We look forward to supporting their growth as capable, confident mathematicians.
