From the Deputy Principal
We are approaching the end of the school year and as our diaries fill up, it's time to be mindful that we need to keep filling up our own 'cups' in areas like making time for ourselves, spending time with our family and recognising others. Recently, I watched a video showing the stark difference in parent child interactions when the parent is engaged with their phone as compared to when we are fully present with our children. The difference in the child's response, their development of language and their connections were startling. It was a sobering reminder about how different a focused, intentional interaction looks, when compared to one which is interrupted by technology. It is so easy to pick up our phones as a means of escaping, to 'just check messages' and before long we can be drawn into emails, news updates and social media. Perhaps being busy all the time is the same. All the while, our children are watching. And, perhaps we are missing out on having our cups filled by the joy and wonder of our children, and our colleagues and friends.
It reminded me to take some time to stop and connect, rather than rushing through the day. So, earlier this week I visited the Kindy room and was lifted up by the excitement of the students who had just had a delivery of the magic 'Elf on the Shelf'. The delight on their faces! Later in the day I went back and was welcomed like a long lost stranger. The Year Threes last week could not contain their enthusiasm about their sleepover and wanted to chat to me about what they were going to do. The Year Twelves who are finishing their ATAR exams suddenly have time for sharing their next adventures with me and have stopped by to tell me about what next year holds. Colleagues who have stories to share about their latest exercise adventures as we make a morning cup of tea. So, a reminder, as our lives fill up with activity, to engage where it really matters.

Update on Ulster Road Lane Closure - Stage 6
Our authorised contractor, DM Civil, are ahead of the original work schedule to replace a wastewater pipeline under Ulster Road. This pipeline is an important part of Albany’s wastewater network and the work will reduce future leaks and breaks.
From Friday 11 October 2024 we will begin Stage 6 which will progress the lane closure along Ulster Road to the North Road roundabout. Work for this stage will continue until approximately early December 2024.
What to expect in Stage 6:
- A single northbound lane of Ulster Road will be closed from the North Road intersection roundabout to Bardley Road.
- The southbound lane from Lower King and Bayonet Head to North Road will remain open with reduced speed limits.
- A detour along Campbell Road and Bardley Road will be in place. Alternatively, you may exit Campbell Road and use Angove Road and Collingwood Road to continue to reduce traffic around the schools and hospital.
- Access to properties and businesses will be maintained.
- For the safety of our workers and the community, please follow all traffic signs and reduced speed limits.

Thank you for your patience while we complete this essential pipeline replacement. With your continued support, we can shape WA's water future together.
