Connections to Country

2024 Reflection

This year our Koorie students have been busy connecting with each other and have been celebrating their culture in many ways. Our boys and girls groups have enjoyed excursions to Peppermint Ridge Farm, Bangarra Dance Theatre and have been busy completing artwork, cooking, beading, wood burning and tending to our Indigenous Garden.

As a Marrung Lead school our relationship with Rubicon Outdoor School and the events and programs we run at Lowanna are all helping raise the student voice and the community’s profile of our school. We have students proudly involved in the KELSI Program which is inspiring young Koorie leaders in schools and Lowanna College has hosted one of these conferences for students across the region. We continue to make our Indigenous students and families a priority and we strive to improve our cultural knowledge and representation in the classroom and beyond.

Recent Koorie Celebration

On Monday the 9th of December students that have been involved in the 2024 Koorie Camp with Rubicon Outdoor School enjoyed an End of Year Celebration Day at Blue Rock Damn.

The weather was perfect for a paddle in the canoes and the students could share with their loved ones or friends the skills they have learnt in the outdoor space. Students enjoyed a BBQ lunch with our KESO and some staff from the Principal Team before being presented with a certificate from Rubicon highlighting their achievements, the skills they learnt throughout the year and some photos to remember the fun they all had together.

We look forward to offering this program to our Koorie students again in 2025 as they learn new skills, have lots of adventures in the outdoors, connect to Country, and each other, and build long lasting relationships.
