Week 7, Term 4

STEM

Grade 1 and 2  

This week students will explore motion, including how different objects move, start, stop, change direction and impacts on speed. 

 

Grade 3 and 4  

Understanding the states of matter can be very useful for a number of real-world applications. Students will learn about the states of matter and how we define them, finding examples in our school. 

 

Grade 5 and 6  

 Students will complete their animations on their chosen natural disaster. Student will then participate in an online interactive game whereby they have to build infrastructure that will protect a community from a natural disaster. 

 

Visual Arts

Prep

Students will be connecting to their work in the classroom around ‘Curiosity’, by looking closely at rainbows and drawing them with pastels before adding watercolour paint.

 

Grade 1 and 2

Students will be using the marbled paper from last week to create a planet collage, complete with sequins, stars and glitter.

 

Grade 3 and 4

This week students will learn how to quill. They will roll paper around a quilling tool, secure it with glue and arrange their work in a design for Christmas. 

 

Grade 5

Students will begin a new unit based on Pablo Picasso. They will begin to create a paper collage portrait following the elements of the cubism movement. 

 

Grade 6

Students will begin a one-point perspective drawing of their name. They will be required to rule and measure their name letters and accurately line up the corners to meet the vanishing point.  

 

Physical Education

 

Prep PE

This week, we will focus on reviewing key ball-striking and catching skills. Students will engage in various small group activities to practice these skills. These exercises aim to improve coordination and teamwork.

 

Prep Sensory

In this week’s Sensory Gym sessions, students will enjoy a selection of activities and exercises designed to improve their balance, core strength and hand-eye coordination.

 

Grade 1 and 2

Students will focus on consolidating their ball-striking and catching. They will engage in various small group activities to practice these skills. These exercises aim to improve coordination and teamwork.

 

Grade 3 and 4

We’ll begin our focus on the sport of Tee-Ball this week. Students will be introduced to the essential skills of the game: throwing, striking, and catching with a mitt. These fundamentals will form the foundation for their skill development in the sport.

 

Grade 5 and 6

This week, we will explore Tee-Ball, consolidating the essential skills of throwing, striking, and catching with a mitt. Students will work on monitoring their technique for improved accuracy.

 

Performing Arts

All students will be rehearsing their two Christmas songs for the Christmas Carols Performance on Monday 9th December. They will learn the songs and the actions that go with them. 

 

Grade 1 and 2 students do not have their African Drumming workshop this week due to swimming. Their final workshop and performance is on next Thursday 28th November. Families have been emailed with information about this performance, including this link to let us know how many people will be attending.
