During the school holidays, Marnie Williams in Year 5 represented Kambala at the Berry Interschools Equestrian Championships. There were over 150 participants. Marnie participated with her horse Prince, in the sporting, dressage, showing and jumping competitions.

She came 3rd in sporting, 2nd in dressage and 1st in the showing competition. Well done Marnie on this fantastic achievement.

Canberra Cup Winners

A huge congratulations to Lyla Hyder and Laura Janes in Year 10 who competed at the Canberra Cup Water Polo championships on 9 and 10 November. They played for their club UNSW wests in the 17 Years division 1 grade and won the whole tournament.

Allison Wu in Year 8 also competed over the weekend in 14 years division 1 grade and her team finished 4th which is an amazing effort. Our very own Senior A coach Coco Welsh coached a team in the tournament as well.

Well done to all.

Thursday Lunch Time Sports

Every Thursday during term time, we have been running 5 a-side lunch time sports, with a different sport being played each week. There have been some great matches played by the teams each week and friendly rivalries formed between the teams.

For the last three weeks we will have volleyball, netball and “team's choice of sport”. If any other student is interested in playing, we are always happy to have more teams!

Track and Field State Relay Medals

I was thrilled to hear a number of our girls competed at the State Relay Championships winning medals for their clubs. It brought back great memories of my time running relays for Australia and I love coaching our girls! Gia Goldberg was our most improved sprinter in Year 6 and a member of the Kambala  NSWCIS relay team. It is great to hear she is continuing  her Athletics  by competing for Easts  and winning Gold with her relay team!

Year 7 Alina Meers has capped off a great year of Athletics competing with her club South Eastern to win Gold for the third year in a row. Alina is preparing to represent NSW at  the upcoming Australian Championships  and we wish her every success.

ASEAN FUTSAL Championships

The Australian National Futsal team departed for Thailand on the 23rd of October. Jamie Dib and the rest of the Futsalroos took part in a weeklong camp in Bangkok, which involved lots of training and games to acclimatise to the humid conditions in Thailand! They also got to play in practice matches against Malaysia and Vietnam, which served as fantastic preparation for the quality of opposition they were going to face in the competition. Futsal in Asia is extremely competitive, with most of the region now having professional leagues that attract world class players from all over the world. After 11 days in camp, the team travelled to Nakhon Ratchasima to compete in the ASEAN Futsal Championships.

The tournament began on the 4th of November, which saw Australia play 3 games to try and progress to the finals of the competition.

Game 1: Australia 3 - 3 Myanmar

Game 2: Australia 1 - 3 Indonesia

Game 3: Australia 9 - 2 Cambodia

Jamie played an important role in assisting Australia to finish 2nd in their group, and progress to the semi-finals for the first time in this competition since 2015.

Unfortunately, the Futsalroos lost their semi-final match 5-4 against Vietnam. This incredibly tight game against one of the best teams in Asia went to extra time, with Vietnam scoring the winning goal with 40 seconds left to play.

Australia played Thailand in a 3rd/4th playoff game, which saw the hosts Thailand win 4-0 in front of a packed stadium. For context, Thailand have won this tournament 12 times in the last 14 years and progressed to the quarter finals of the World Cup this year (losing to Brazil who were the eventual winners).

This tournament concludes a successful year for the Futsalroos, where Jamie won the Pacific Championships (Against Solomon Islands in February), and competed in the Asian Cup in April (Australia qualifying for the first time in 8 years).
