Grade 5- Aussie Wildlife Displays- Thursday 14th November 2024

This term, our Grade 5 students had the incredible opportunity to experience Australia’s amazing wildlife up close, thanks to an exciting incursion led by Aussie Wildlife. The hands-on session was not only a fun and engaging experience but also an educational one, allowing students to learn about the diverse species that inhabit our country and the importance of preserving their natural habitats.

Meeting Australia’s Fascinating Wildlife

The day began with an interactive presentation where the Aussie Wildlife team introduced students to a variety of native animals, some of which they had never seen before. The highlight of the session was the chance to meet and touch several live animals, including a blue-tongue lizard, a python, wombat, and a sugar glider. The students were captivated as they learned about the unique features and behaviours of these creatures.

One of the most exciting parts of the incursion was when the students had the chance to handle the animals. Students gathered  around to touch and hold the animals. The presenters (Vince) carefully explained how each animal interacts with its environment, demonstrating the unique adaptations that help them survive in the wild.

The hands-on experience gave students a greater appreciation for the diversity of wildlife in Australia and sparked important conversations about conservation and environmental responsibility.

A Focus on Conservation

Throughout the incursion, the importance of conservation was emphasised. Students learned how human actions can affect wildlife populations, and what steps can be taken to protect endangered species. The session encouraged students to think about their own role in preserving Australia’s natural environment, and many expressed interest in supporting wildlife conservation efforts, whether through responsible habits, fundraising, or simply spreading awareness.

Thank You to Aussie Wildlife

We would like to extend a huge thank you to the team at Aussie Wildlife for providing such an engaging and informative experience. Their passion for animals and conservation was infectious, and they made learning about Australia’s wildlife a fun, interactive adventure for the Grade 5 students.

Grade 3 Camp at Somers Camp

This year, our Grade 3 students had the incredible opportunity to attend Somers Camp for a two-day adventure filled with learning, fun, and unforgettable memories. Set against the beautiful backdrop of nature and coast, Somers Camp provided the perfect setting for students to step out of their comfort zones, build new friendships, and connect with the outdoors.

A Fun-Filled Experience

The camp began with an exciting variety of activities that gave students the chance to learn new skills while working together as a team. Highlights included glider possum, orienteering, canoeing, and kite making, among others.

Teamwork and New Friendships

One of the key benefits of Grade 3 Camp was the opportunity for students to collaborate and support each other in a different environment. Many of the children formed new friendships as they worked together in teams to solve problems, complete tasks, and support one another during the activities. By the end of the camp, students had developed stronger social skills and a deeper sense of community.

A Special Thanks

A huge thank you goes out to the teachers, staff, and camp leaders who made this experience possible. Their dedication and enthusiasm ensured that the children had a safe, fun, and educational experience. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the parents and guardians for their support in preparing the students for this wonderful adventure.
