Vinnies Christmas Appeal - Thank You and call for Zooper Dooper donations

Thank you to everybody who has brought in food items, vocuhers or donated money to the Vinnies Christmas Appeal. Just a reminder that that our local branch of Vinnies have let us know that there isn't a need for children's presents this hear.

The RE Student Leaders will still be selling Zooper Doopers until the end of Week 10, so we would be grateful for anybody to donate a packet or two. Any extras will be sold in Term 1 next year as part of our Project Compassion fundraising.

A snapshot of RE Learning in 1/2HH

The season of Advent commenced on Sunday 1st December.  We explored how Advent is a time of preparation to celebrate the birth of Jesus. As a class, we discussed the four candles of the Advent wreath and the colours of the candles (three purple candles, one pink candle and the white candle for Christmas Day). Each Sunday, a new candle is lit and each candle represents an idea that is important to us - Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. The fifth white candle represents the light of Jesus.  As we prepared our Prayer Table for the season of Advent, we made our own Advent wreaths to add to the prayer space.

Sunday Gospel

The liturgy of the Catholic Church provides a framework for reflection which is used by Catholics throughout the world. Each week in the Newsletter, you will find the Sunday Gospel as well as some discussion questions to have with your child/ren.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke

In the fifteenth year of Tiberius Caesar’s reign, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judaea, Herod tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of the lands of Ituraea and Trachonitis, Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, during the pontificate of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah, in the wilderness. He went through the whole Jordan district proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, as it is written in the book of the sayings of the prophet Isaiah:

A voice cries in the wilderness;

Prepare a way for the Lord,

make his paths straight.

Every valley will be filled in,

every mountain and hill be laid low,

winding ways will be straightened

and rough roads made smooth.

And all mankind shall see the salvation of God.

Discussion Questions

1. John the Baptist told people to prepare for the coming of Jesus. What sort of things might he have said?

2. How can you help your family and friends prepare for the coming of Jesus this week?.
