ART

(By Dean Russo)

This term the Grade 3 and 4 students have been learning about contemporary American artist Dean Russo who specialises in street art inspired portraits of dogs and other animals. He uses a variety of mediums to produce his art including acrylic, graphite, spray paint, stencils and collage. He is very passionate about not only his art but animal shelter and rescue and the students were inspired to create their own animal themed artworks.

3M painting and Penny (4F) and Sanar (4F) using sponges.

First they filled their page with bright primary and secondary colour paint and used stencils in gold, silver and white paint to create interesting shapes on top. Tracing paper was used to help draw an animal of their choice and outlined using india ink big brush pens.  Next, the stencilled shapes were rediscovered drawing black fine liner around them and the students added their own patterns and shapes using Posca paint pens. Finally, we wanted the animals to really stand out, so they cut out their animal shape and glued them onto coloured paper for contrast. An ‘aura’ was added around each animal using sponge dabbers and some students chose to add inspiring messages to their artwork.
