A warm and gigantic welcome to our 2024 Preppies! We're excited to see many familiar faces joining from our energetic ELC, as well as some enthusiastic new students becoming a part of our community next year!

Library news

Fiona O'Rourke, Head of Library and Digital Resourcing

We are thrilled to be in our new library and have been relishing the calm green space. Since its opening, the Library has been a hive of activity from morning to afternoon, with students making the most of our numerous study areas.

As a fan of nonfiction, I'm delighted to have our entire collection accessible to borrowers once more.

Games Day is back every Monday at lunchtime, and students have been enjoying playing board games, jigsaws, Jenga and chess.

On October 24, we had the pleasure of hosting author Jane Godwin in the Library. Our ELC four-year-olds, along with their Year 5 buddies, enjoyed a session exploring the power of storytelling.

Together, they co-created a bear character, giving him a name and some traits. They are excited about crafting a story with the bear as the protagonist in future buddy sessions. Then, on October 25, Jane read several of her books

Congratulations to our Years 7 and 8 eth-letes on their outstanding performance at the recent Ethics Olympiad.

Out of 24 high-calibre teams, Kilvington secured 4th place overall. Our Purple Team (Alexander Moore, Year 7, and Liam Eliav, Ethan Cohen and Sasha Polikushin, Year 8) received an honorable mention. Our Green Team (Cameron Leighton, Josie Clyne, Barney Jones and Nicholas Giouros, Year 7) was recognized as the Most Improved Team of the day.

What an achievement! Well done to all the Years 7 and 8 students involved and to their coach, Lizzie Bush, for a fantastic effort!

Year 10 Media excursion to ACMI

Elijah Ignasiak, Year 10

On Thursday 2 November, as part of the Year 10 Media class, Year 10 students had the privilege of travelling to ACMI in the Melbourne CBD to participate in a game-narrative workshop.

The program was conducted by ACMI’s Head of Programs, Garry Westmore, who brought his expertise and energy to fuel the Year 10 group.

During the program, we gained hands-on experience in what it's like to be a narrative developer by writing and producing our own 'choose your own adventure' games.

The key themes of the games varied, from prison break scenarios to escaping barbaric tribes.

Overall, we had a highly educational and enjoyable experience that shed light on the hard work involved in video game development.

to our ELC three-year-olds.

We also had a fantastic time decorating the space for Halloween and sharing our knowledge of this ancient Celtic festival. This month, our Genre of the Month is 'mystery', and students have been thoroughly enjoying reading and exchanging book recommendations during our Library sessions.

eSports Just Dance Final

We recently held the inaugural eSports Just Dance Final in our Sport Centre. It was an epic dance-off competition, featuring Houses Barrett, Burman, Fethers, and Fysh, with Fethers taking out the 2023 crown! Congratulations Fethers!

Check out the fun video clip of our dancers on the Kilvington Facebook page.

Faculty Development Expo

It was outstanding to see our staff jumping head-first into the Faculty Development Expo last week.

As part of the Professional Development program at Kilvington, Senior School faculties presented their development projects in an expo format. The theme for 2023 was linked to the Strategic Priority–Inspired Learning Culture.

Each faculty focused on one of the key priorities:

  • Maximise academic potential of every student.
  • Delivery of a curriculum that is dynamic, engaging and relevant.
  • Equip students with skills to thrive.

Here are some teacher quotes from this expo.

I really enjoyed the insight into other teachers' classrooms; it helps me adopt these creative ideas into my teaching, or reaffirms what I'm already doing in my class.

I really enjoyed the showcase yesterday, and was thinking how lucky our students are to come to a school with such great staff and programs.

Our teachers clearly had a great learning experience and are excited about implementing this newfound knowledge back into their classrooms!

Senior School Career Panels

Senior School students gained valuable insights and expert advice during the recent Career Panels held at The HIVE.

Parents from our School were invited to participate and generously gave their time on these panels. We are very grateful to our parent guest speakers Dentist Warren Antonoff, Nurse Carly Stafilis, Medical Technology, Pharmaceutical Recruiter Sophea Heng, and Finance and Business experts Theo Zographos and Katherine Ransom, for sharing their time, knowledge and expertise with our students. Thank you!
