On Wednesday 1 November, Abby A (Yr 6), competed at the State Primary Athletics Championships in the 11-year-old girls' discus event.

It was an amazing achievement for Abby to qualify for the State event after finishing in the top two placings at each of the preceding District, Division, and Regional Athletic events.

Abby has had no formal training; she has a natural, flowing technique, and has been able to refine her technique over the recent months as she has competed at the other various events.

Further, at school in the lead-up to the State carnival, Abby was able to have some focused discus tips from Asher A, from Year 10, who is, himself, the current State All-Schools U/17 Discus champion.

Overall, Abby came 14th in a field of 16 athletes. Abby is to be commended on the growth and development she has made with the skill of discus throwing, and the persistence she showed, in highly competitive and trying conditions, during the State event.
