Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

WALK TO SCHOOL DAY - FRIDAY 27TH OCTOBER

Tomorrow Friday 27th October is Walk to School Day!

Beyond Bank staff members will be at the gate handing out some goodies. They will be identified by their Beyond Bank uniform, so make sure you walk to school tomorrow and say hello to them!

WORLD TEACHER DAY - FRIDAY 27TH OCTOBER

World Teachers’ Day is tomorrow Friday 27th October. It is an opportunity to say thank you for the incredible contributions teachers make to our community.

We will recognise the passion teachers have, and how teaching has extended beyond the classroom to maintain connections through flexible learning.

You can get involved by sending a message of thanks to a teacher who is making, or has made, an impact on your life.

We have some wonderful things planned including a tree where students can write messages of thanks on an apple to the teachers.

VOLUNTEER MORNING TEA - MONDAY 30TH OCTOBER 2023 11AM

Don’t forget to RSVP your attendance to our Volunteer Morning Tea which is being held on Monday 30th October 2023 at 11am. We wouldn't be able to provide the many wonderful extra curricular activities without the support of our wonderful volunteers. So please come along so we can say thank you.

SPONSORS - WARRNAMBOOL PRIMARY SCHOOL

We are so grateful to all of our wonderful sponsors at Warrnambool Primary School. With their support we are able to purchase resources and run programs which we would not otherwise be able to do. So please where you can support those businesses who have so generously supported us.

We are amazed with the goodwill of local businesses and organisations towards our Monster Raffle which launches as part of GOvember next Wednesday 1st November. There are some fantastic prizes to be won.

GOVEMBER

November is nearly here and with that is one of our Major Fundraisers and health initiative GOvember. The challenge is set!

Students collectively have the goal to run, walk, cycle or swim around Australia. The staff must negotiate the Nullarbor from Warrnambool to Perth.

All of this in 30 days. Can we do it? We’re not sure but what we do know is that as a collective we are strong and will give it our best shot.

We have a very exciting launch day next Wednesday 1st November, where students are welcome to dress in sporting attire and to get our tally moving. ‘Go Man’ might even make an appearance. Please remember to buy and sell as many raffle tickets as you are able. It is all funding to support our great school.

CHRISTMAS EXTRAVAGANZA - THURSDAY 7TH NOVEMBER 2023

Please put Thursday 7th December 2023 in your diaries as we are holding our annual Christmas Extravaganza. Festivities will commence at 5.30pm, with performances by all students, plenty of food and drink available and the Monster Raffle will be drawn.

Last year we were amazed with the turn-out of families and with even more attractions this year planned we are very excited.

PUPIL FREE DAYS

For the remainder of the year we have the following pupil free days:

  • Monday 20th November 2023 - Assessment and Reporting
  • Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th December 2023 - End of year and preparations for 2024

MURAL - ABORIGINAL COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP PROJECT

At the end of last term, the school successfully received a grant from the Department of Education Koorie Fund. Part of that grant was used to pay for cultural educational sessions for our students, provided by local Indigenous artist, Sherry Johnstone, and the purchase of one of her paintings, which we had made into a mural. Stuart Dawe who owns and operates Fusion Signs printed and installed the mural over the holidays.

Sherry’s painting is titled “My Country, My Medicine” and includes several symbols iconic to our region.

Sherry conducted a one-hour session with each class in the school, with Mrs Dixon, during regular specialist Art sessions. Sherry taught the students about local culture and explained the symbols used in her painting. Each student will now plan and produce their own small piece of artwork, inspired by Sherry’s piece. We were thrilled to have Sherry at our school and we hope that she can come to the opening of the Mrs Dixon’s Art Exhibition later in the term.

The Art Exhibition will be held over a week commencing on Tuesday 21 November 2023 with the Grand Opening at 4pm.

Have a great weekend!
