Dear fellow members of the JMSS Community,

Congratulations to all our students who have worked so hard and completed their exam period!

It is an important exam period for our Year 12s in particular but also for our Year 10s and Year 11s who are newer to the exam process and experience. We are proud of all your efforts.

We have now moved through the period of VCE Unit 3/4 examinations, as well as the scheduled Years 10 and 11 examinations.

The students have all been fantastic, reporting to the pre-ordained venues well before the appointed time, and following instructions as directed.

I would like to thank the VCE team who have done an amazing job co-ordinating and running what has been a massive process. I hope our Year 12 students are all relieved that this part of their year is now over, and they can enjoy some well-deserved R&R time with their friends.

Year 10 and 11 students also did a great job working their way through their JMSS domestic exams, as well as any VCAA exams they qualified for. Despite some challenges involving Melbourne traffic and public transport delays, overall the period was highly successful, and all of our students can be suitably proud of how positively they worked through the challenges inherent at this time of the year, and how well they collectively performed.

The Next Two Weeks

The  week featured course confirmation for students moving into both Years 11 and 12 in 2024.  These are important conversations and students and their families had scheduled times with our staff to co-construct courses which honour the ambitions and talents of our students, with performance realities taken into account. Course confirmation also included interviews for all of the students in Years 10 and 11 who are new to JMSS in 2024.

The Australian Science Fair is one of the feature events in the JMSS calendar. All of our Year 10 students will be able to undertake the many challenges and activities over the first three days of Week 8. We are also fortunate to have fellow STEM schools from other states join us for these three action-packed days. My sincere thanks and congratulations to Dr Mel Denney and her fantastic team of science staff at JMSS for making this opportunity possible for so many students.

Following this event, a number of Immersion Days have been arranged for our students by schools and faculties within the University. Our students are so very fortunate to be able to undertake these unique and deeply engaging experiences. We have Immersion Days in Biomedicine, Science and Engineering, among others, as well as another Personal Development Day organised by JMSS staff.

I have included some articles here that I trust will be of interest.

Best Regards
