Central Idea: 

Journey through Aboriginal Art: Connecting Past Wisdom to present understanding. 

 

Lines Of Inquiry:  

  • Exploring Artistic Techniques and Styles: Different Aboriginal communities employ unique artistic techniques and styles in their artwork. 
  • Historical context and evolution: Aboriginal art evolved over time while maintaining its cultural roots. 
  • Contemporary Aboriginal Artists: Notable contemporary Aboriginal artists contribute to the ongoing development of Indigenous art.
  • Artists address contemporary issues and themes in their work.

Students Will Create: 

  • Dot Painting:  Exploring the origins and technique of dot painting in relation to Papunya Tulla 
  • Camp dog collage: Using the designs of Dion Beasley to inspire their own drawings of camp dogs and then flipping over the dog to the painted side to create a completed artwork. 
  • MiMi Spirit sculpture: Combining assorted string binding, fabrics, and paint, inspired by the work from both Central Australia, the Tjanpi Desert Weavers and Arnhem land Cave paintings. 
  • Printmaking fabric design: Creating bold patterned print designs inspired by artists from Arnhem land. 

Japanese

Transdisciplinary Theme: 

Sharing the planet 

 

Central Idea: 

All children have rights and responsibilities regardless of who they are. 

 

Lines Of Inquiry: 

  • The rights and responsibilities that all children should have. 
  • Whether they differ throughout the world. 

Key Concepts:

communicators, responsibility 

 

Learner Profile Attributes: 

principled, communicators 

 

Students Will: 

  • Say and write “at school” in Hiragana. 
  • Say and write “We (can) do... at school.” in Japanese in the right sentence structure. 
  • Say and write “We must not do...” in hiragana and katakana. 
  • Compare school rules (essential agreements) of BNPS and Arakawa primary school and discuss similarities and differences between the two schools. 

 Music

Transdisciplinary Theme:

Central Idea: 

All children have rights regardless of who they are. 

Lines Of Inquiry:  

  • The rights that all children should have. 
  • The similarities and differences between a right and a responsibility. 
  • Whether these rights differ throughout the world. 

Key Concepts:

Learner Profile Attributes:

Students Will: 

  • Explore similarities and differences between music from different places.  
  • Reflect on the way music expresses ideas from different places and people. 
  • Verbalise the purpose and features of music.
  • Practise their music reading, writing and playing by using classroom percussion and melodic instruments to perform rhythms and melodies such as a Habanera rhythm from Cuba, a Boogie Woogie bass line from America, or a children’s singing game from Africa. 
  • Create music that is inspired by the music other places. 
  • Demonstrate being caring and principled learners by showing respect to different cultures.
  • Prepare and present songs for an audience. 

Physical Education

Transdisciplinary theme:   

How we organise ourselves 

 

Central Idea:  

Effective organization and teamwork are essential for success in physical activities and in our daily lives. 

 

Lines Of Inquiry: 

Strategies for effective teamwork- Communication and collaboration create effective teamwork. 

What are the consequences of disorganization? - Disorganization leads to challenges in achieving goals and in real life scenarios. 

 

Key Concepts:  

function – helps us understand the purpose and role of organization and teamwork in PE activities and how these can enhance performance. 

responsibility encourage students to take responsibility for their roles in a team and how this relates to individual accountability in a team setting.

Students Will: 

  • Develop game sense and more complex movement skills within game situations using the skills they have previously learnt. 
  • Focus on using knowledge of games, working in groups and awareness of rules, tactics, and equipment. 
  • Focus on Newcombe, Orienteering, and Ultimate Vortex (Based on Ultimate Frisbee Game). 

Library

All students are encouraged to borrow books from the library. The focus is on reading for enjoyment, interest and information. 

 

The children also have the opportunity to practise their borrowing skills and further their love of reading. 

 

The library program also supports and extends the units of inquiry being studied in each year level and provides classrooms with resources to enrich the units offering varied forms of information.
