The Impact of Pope Francis on Our World: A Catholic Reflection
Since becoming pope in 2013, Pope Francis has inspired millions across the globe with his compassion, humility, and deep commitment to living out the Gospel. As the first pope from the Americas and the first Jesuit pope, he brings a fresh perspective to the Church—one rooted in mercy, justice, and love for the poor.
At our Catholic primary school, we often reflect on what it means to live like Jesus. Pope Francis gives us a living example. His focus on caring for creation, welcoming the stranger, and loving without judgment echoes the teachings of Christ in powerful, practical ways.
One of his most well-known messages comes from Laudato Si’, his encyclical on the environment. In it, he reminds us:
“The Earth is our common home and we must take care of it with love and responsibility.”This message continues to inspire our efforts to be sustainable, respectful of creation, and grateful for God’s gifts.
Pope Francis also speaks often about God’s mercy, encouraging us to never lose hope:
“God never tires of forgiving us; we are the ones who tire of seeking His mercy.”This beautiful reminder helps us prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and encourages a forgiving heart in our everyday lives.
He often challenges both adults and children alike to “go to the margins,” to care for the poor and those in need. In our school community, we strive to do this in the way we collect for charities, serve others, and look out for one another.
Reflective Questions for Families:
- How can we show mercy and forgiveness like Pope Francis encourages?
- What does it mean to care for our common home as a family?
- How can we speak and act in a way that reflects God’s love?
