Library News

Oh, what fun we have been having in the library this term!

We have a new display, “We Are Wild About Reading,” featuring our jungle themed books. Our Junior School students have also been able to spot Sally Snake, as well as Milo Monkey and Felix Frog from the Little Learners Love Literacy Program and around the Library!

Year 5/6s had a Library lesson dedicated to exploring our collection of Anzac Day and related books and learning about the history of and meaning behind Anzac Day. All children also had the opportunity to browse these books and classroom teachers read stories appropriate to each year level.

We have also had our Mother’s Day collection of books on display and did some special colouring in and drawing at lunchtimes for all the Mums, Nans, Grannies and Aunties.

We have added approximately 40 new Picture Story, Primary Fiction, Primary Non-Fiction and Primary Graphic Novel books to the Library since the beginning of Term 2. We have also purchased 20 new books from the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s 2025 Shortlist so that we now have all of the shortlisted books in the categories appropriate to our age levels.

Extremely popular at the moment with some of our Year 3/4 students is our collection of RedBack books. These non-fiction books have interesting topics and engaging layouts and imagery. They include a dedicated STEM series, an inclusively written Australian History series, Remarkable Wildlife, Global Geography, Environmental Issues, Natural Disasters and Sport. The students were loving them so much they were seeking them out from their spots on the shelves, according to the Dewey Decimal system, and arranging them all together! Instead of reshelving them, in consultation with these students, we have now decided on a special location where these books can be kept together. It is so good to see these students enthusiastically reading, borrowing and talking about these books as well as taking pride in arranging them on the shelf.

Reading is Magic!
