We welcome with joy the appointment of Pope Leo XIV as the new leader of the Catholic Church.
Early reports describe Pope Leo XIV as a diplomatic and compassionate leader, known for his unwavering commitment to justice and peace. With the same energy and vision as his predecessor, he steps into the papacy at a time when the world deeply needs voices of hope, unity, and moral courage.
In his first address, Pope Leo XIV offered strong, uplifting messages—calling the Church to renewed compassion, inclusivity, and global responsibility. His words have already sparked optimism not only within the Church but across the wider world, pointing to a papacy that will champion human dignity and the Gospel call to love and serve all.
Let us pray for Pope Leo XIV as he begins this sacred ministry, that he may be guided by the Holy Spirit in wisdom, strength, and grace.
“The Church must always be a sign of hope, especially in times of uncertainty,” he said—words that remind us of the enduring power of faith, and our shared call to live it boldly.
Last week, we celebrated Catholic Education Week, a time to reflect on and give thanks for the many opportunities Catholic schools offer students and families across Victoria.
Catholic schools are places of faith, learning, inclusion and community, and we are proud of the quality of education and care we provide here at St Joseph's.
We are also in the 2026 enrolment period. If you have a child ready to begin Foundation next year—or know of families in our community interested in joining St Joseph's—please visit our website to enrol: www.sjquarryhill.catholic.edu.au
The glorious weather aided a wonderful day out. All students competed in great spirit during our recent Athletics carnival. Thank you to Mrs Aimie Brown for her organisation and time to ensure the day was a success. Thank you also to all the parents who volunteered their time and support - greatly appreciated.
At St Joseph's, we love to acknowledge mother figures and special people in the lives of our students. Thank you to the many parents and staff who contribute so much time and effort to ensure this was once again a memorable event.
National Photography have now provided individual codes to students so school photos can viewed and ordered.

With the commencement of Term 2, our service would like to remind the school community to ensure that school parents are adhering to speed limits and safe parking during school drop off and pick up times.
Our school crossing supervisors continue to report concerning driving behaviour and illegal parking being performed by parents and carers around schools during these peak periods. The message our service continues to promote is that ‘road safety is everyone’s responsibility’. This is particularly important around primary schools. The driving behaviours children witness today will shape their driving habits in the future. Setting the right example is crucial.
Two of the primary schools in the City of Greater Bendigo area have recently had their school crossing upgraded to a wombat pedestrian crossing. This is an excellent improvement to pedestrian safety, as pedestrians have right of way when crossing these sites at all times.
While we are not aware of any further crossing upgrades, it is important to advise all schools that if a crossing upgrade to a wombat or zebra crossing does occur, then a school crossing supervisor would no longer be allocated to the site. Crossing supervisors have no authority to stop traffic on a wombat or zebra crossing.
If you can please share the importance of safe driving and adhering to traffic rules in your school newsletter.
Thank you.
