Principal's Report
Michelle Hill
Dear Parents and Carers,
In two weeks time (May 19th to 23rd) I'll be heading to Broome for our South Central Principals' Conference. This group includes the principals from our local area from Fitzroy down to Sandringham, and all the Bayside suburbs in between. The focus of our conference is on learning more about our indigenous culture, and how we can raise cultural awareness back in our schools using appropriate language and in a sensitive manner.
Callum Mills and Laura Zeeng will be joint Acting Principals for the week that I'm away.
Mother's Day is fast approaching and we have a busy few days of Mother's Day celebrations planned. Please see the P & F page for full details of our Mother's Day stall and breakfast.
Thursday 8th May - Mother's Day Stall
Children can attend the stall in family groups this year, to avoid double-ups of gifts.
Friday 9th May - Mother's Day Breakfast and Lunch
We'll be starting the day with breakfast on-site at school from 7:30am. Don't forget to place your breakfast orders through CDF App by tomorrow (May 2nd).
We hope that all the Mums who are attending the lunch at Mya Tiger have a wonderful time. It promises to be a great afternoon, and the raffle prizes look amazing.
Thank you to all the parent reps who are putting in time to make these three events a success.
We have a busy few weeks of sporting events taking place at the moment.
Congratulations to all 80 of our cross country runners who took part in today's District event; they should all be very proud of themselves. Please see the Sports News page for results and more photos.
Our Winter Sport program of football and netball kicks off tomorrow with us hosting St Joseph's Malvern, and two teams heading to Galilee in South Melbourne.
Our Year 4 bike-ed program also starts tomorrow; this is always a valuable experience for our Year 4 students as they get ready for their camp in October.
By Monday, all students should be wearing correct Winter uniform. There seem to be a few ties missing already, especially among the boys, please purchase a new one if needed. As always, please ensure that each item (including ties) are named so that we can get them back to the rightful owners. We are back to regularly reminding the boys to tuck their shirts in at the end of lunchtimes and snack times, the younger students may need some practice doing this independently.
Some of the money raised in our recent Colour Run has been used to purchase nearly 600 new take home readers for our Prep and Year 1 classrooms. These decodable books will support the learning that is happening in the classrooms with the InitialLit program, and will allow the children to practise their newly developing skills at home. The books are currently being processed and we hope to have them in the classrooms as soon as possible.
We are now two weeks into our new Sick Bay communication system. If your child has visited the sick bay throughout the day, you will receive an email informing you of this by the end of the day.
Our corridor is looking a lot more colourful with the addition of our new mural which was painted this week.
Thank you to Paul Zarogiannis who took these beautiful photos of our recent Colour Run. Looking through these photos brought back memories of what a fun day it was...so many happy, smiling faces.
God bless,
Michelle Hill
