5/6O - Out of the Blocks in Term 2

Lent and Easter

On Day 1 of Term 2, 5/6O reflected on their Lenten promises and celebrated the joy of the Easter season with a liturgy in the classroom. The students gave thanks for the resurrection of Jesus and shared the message of hope and new beginnings.

First Aid Incursion

Last Thursday, 5/6O took part in a hands-on First Aid Incursion. With the guidance of a trained instructor, students revised the DRSABCD action plan. The children had the opportunity to practise CPR on training mannequins, learning how to check for breathing and perform chest compressions correctly. They discussed the importance of staying calm and taking action in the event of an emergency!

ANZAC Day

Our school community came together for a moving ANZAC Day Prayer Service led by members of the Student Representative Council (SRC) and Mini Vinnies. The service provided an opportunity for students and staff to pause and remember the courage, sacrifice and enduring spirit of Australian and New Zealand servicemen and women. In the classroom, the children explored some of the key symbols related to ANZAC Day and created their own meaningful artwork.

Public Speaking

Sandra de Geest is back in business at St John Vianney’s! Sandra will run her Debating Program this term with all Year 5/6 students. Yesterday, 5/6O engaged in an introductory theory lesson. Next week, the first debate will be held. The topic is: Should plastic bags be banned in Australia? The affirmative team will be Dominic, Ollie and Alec. Mackenzie, Nickolas K and Ajooni will argue against the topic. All the children are already showing great enthusiasm and are looking forward to further developing their public speaking and communication skills.
