The VPC program is making good progress as students are beginning to understand the purpose of applied learning.  The learners are working on different projects based on their interests to apply their learning in the real world.

In Week 8, some students in the VPC program will begin their work experience at various industries within the local community. This work experience will provide them with an opportunity to experience the workforce and prepare them for work life in the future. A big thank you to all these local businesses who have given the students this opportunity to be part of their workforce.

Numeracy

In this unit, students are looking at 2 and 3 dimensional shapes, and their application in designing and constructing wing designs in the woodwork room. The overarching idea of understanding shapes, is to use their knowledge and properties of shapes to design wings for a glider plane. Their knowledge of area, perimeter and measurement of shapes is essential in this unit. Students will also design and construct toolboxes or jewellery boxes of their choice. This way of learning allows students to be creative and logical in constructing a wing design, toolbox or jewellery box.

Literacy

In this unit, students are researching, planning, drafting and completing documents required for the workplace. They are also being creative in using their interests in creating short films, as this caters for students who need reasonable adjustments in their learning.

The skills in literacy are applicable to Numeracy, Work -Related Skills and Personal Development Skills.

Work-Related Skills

In this unit, students are working on their resumes and completing safety certifications needed for the workplace. Learners also used the opportunity to make phone calls to local businesses within the Gippsland area to ask for places to have work experience.

Personal Development Skills

In this unit, students are looking at the various leadership styles and what motivates them to act as leaders. Learners have been researching exceptional leaders and creating a profile for these leaders and identifying their leadership style. During the next module in Semester 2, students will be able to execute a community project and create a community awareness campaign.

Electives

In these electives, learners prepared, budgeted and cooked food for the Biggest Morning Tea this they did in conjunction with VPC learners at the FLO campus, raising awareness for cancer. Students have also built spaghetti towers and painted pots in the creative and craft space. In addition, students every Tuesday head to the Churchill Primary School to continue working on their community projects. Learners through this community project will gain valuable life skills to prepare them for the workforce in the future.

These are some of the highlights of what the students are doing in the VPC program at the University Campus.   Below are some pictures of students participating in various activities.
