This week has seen practice exams for all VCE classes. The practice exams are an important part of learning for the VCE students and an opportunity to familiarise themselves with exam protocols in terms of preparation and performance. It has been pleasing to see the effort and application students have demonstrated throughout the exam period.
All VCE and VCE VM students studying a Year 12 subject will be participating in the General Achievement Test (GAT) on Tuesday 17th June. An assembly was held recently to inform students of the details they need to know and also to hand out an information sheet explaining the purpose and structure of the GAT. Each student will receive a GAT statement of results later in the year. Please note there are no classes on this day to accommodate the GAT and teachers will use this day as their assessment day for Semester 1.
Welcome to new teaching staff
We have recently welcomed Sheik Sultan to our campus who will be teaching in the mathematics area in Semester 2. Sheik has had extensive teaching experience in senior studies and also University level courses and we look forward to his contribution to our team.
Recent Events
This term has seen a variety of events and excursions offering students valuable experiences and these are detailed in the Campus News section of this newsletter, and I encourage you to read through this section to get an appreciation of the range of opportunities offered to our students. I would like to extend my thanks to the staff who have organised and supervised these activities and also to the students for the admirable way they have participated and conducted themselves. We regularly receive positive feedback from event facilitators on the positive attitude and manner in which our students have engaged in activities.
Excellence – one of our College pillars
Excellence at the University Campus can look different for each student. Whilst some students aspire to attaining an ATAR score that will get them an offer for a university course of their choosing, others may seek to secure an apprenticeship in a trade of their interest, still others may be aiming at employment in a specific field of endeavour. Our approach is that each form of excellence is equally valid, and we strive to support each student in achieving their ‘excellence’. From our experience if students meet the expectations of our other pillars, engagement, work ethic, and relationships, they will be well placed to achieve their excellence. Together we can support and guide students to reach their goals and we are constantly encouraging students to focus on their goal to provide motivation and purpose for applying themselves and reaping the reward for their level of commitment and effort with their senior studies.
