Inquiry:
For Term 2, our Inquiry focus is History, exploring community, remembrance and Celebrations within Australia in particular. Each week, we will have a different focus on community and celebrations, unpacking important events and history of our country. All our exploration and new knowledge of these events and celebrations will be showcased as we move towards the end of the term where we will share our ideas through an inquiry based project.
Specifically across the recent few weeks, we turn our attention towards Anzac Day, Australia Day history, Reconciliation Week, NAIDOC Week, Harmony, and Sorry Day. We look forward to discussing and unpacking the purpose behind each event through different lenses, looking at what these days might mean to us and others in our communities.
Literacy:
In our upcoming fortnight, our students will be exploring the powerful picture book Fox by Margaret Wild and Ron Brooks. Through rich illustrations and poetic language, the story explores themes of friendship, loyalty, and betrayal. Students will be engaging in discussions about the characters of Dog, Magpie, and Fox, analysing their motivations and emotions. We will also explore and unpack meaningful and rich vocabulary from the text. Students will practise inferring meaning from text and images, and connect the story to their own experiences. This book study will not only be supporting students’ reading comprehension skills but will also foster empathy and critical thinking. We will also be exploring language patterns and features, and practise applying these methods to our own creative writing pieces.
Numeracy:
To kick off Maths in Term 2, Level 4 students have been developing their understanding of decimals by learning to identify, represent and write tenths in decimal format. They’ve been exploring how tenths relate to fractions and the number system through hands-on activities and visual models. In addition, students are learning about time—focusing on units such as seconds, minutes and hours. These foundational skills support their growing confidence in working with both number and measurement concepts.
