Principals Report

Dear SEPS Families,
Welcome back to Term 2. We are off to a flying start with learning underway across the school. I have heard so many great examples of learner engagement just in the few days since our return. Today I witnessed Wilko dressed like a Mighty Ducks goalie in the gym. Students were pegging tennis balls at him so that he could teach them about the natures of force. I even got to have a shot! Yesterday, a very excited Ms Parsons shared her morphology lesson with me. She was teaching her Level 3 class to spell igneous (as in rock) when one of her students put their hand up to share that they had researched the word, all on their own. They shared that it comes from the Latin root word “ignis”, which means fire. Igneous rocks are formed from the cooling of molten rock or lava, thus connecting them to fire… which makes perfect sense! Learning about the morphology of a word is part of our core literacy program from Level 3 – 6.
SEPS Social are already busy preparing for the term. We have a coffee meeting on Friday morning and would love to welcome everyone along. You do not need to commit to anything. It is an opportunity to meet some great people, have a cuppa and hear about all the exciting events that are planned, starting with our Mother’s Day breakfast next Friday! We also have our Cross-Country next week so look forward to seeing lots of you across the course of the week.
I have the pleasure of joining the Year 6 team in Week 4 as we head to Canberra for the week on camp. This will be the first trip to Canberra in several years, so we look forward to putting it back on the calendar for our Year 6 cohorts in years to come. We will share all the happenings in the next newsletter… if I don’t get bus sick on the way home!
Have a wonderful fortnight ahead!
