Maths
Our Level 5 students have made a fantastic start to the term and are already diving into new learning with enthusiasm. In Mathematics, we’ve begun exploring fractions, with a focus on comparing and ordering them. Students have been using visual models, number lines, and real-life examples to deepen their understanding of how fractions work and relate to one another. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they use mathematical language to explain their thinking and justify their reasoning.
Literacy
Students were introduced to this term's Mentor text - Book 1 of Landovel - Poison Taster by award winning and beloved author Emily Rodda. Students began the unit with discussions about Genre and Publishing Choices.
Landovel series’ unique publishing features:
•the illustrated slipcase,
•sprayed edges,
•simultaneous release of all books
“In an unprecedented publishing event, Landovel's three parts are available together – and only together – in one unique, irresistible package, ready for you to binge from start to finish. Presented in a stunning embellished giftbox containing all three books with colourful sprayed edges, Landovel is a special keepsake, the ultimate fantasy quest, and the perfect way to ignite young readers' passion by giving them the entire story to devour at once.” – Allen & Unwin, Publishers
Students are also beginning to identify, explain and incorporate Literacy devices like repetition (rule of three), metaphors and similes in their writing endeavours.
Inquiry
This week we started our Term 2 Inquiry focus, Business and Economics. We have focussed on distinguishing between needs and wants and considering how wants may differ across different communities. In the coming weeks we will learn about resources, work, consumer protection and financial literacy. Our term will culminate with an up-cycling project.
