1/2S - Measurement in Maths

This term we started off our Mathematics learning by building on our knowledge of number and place value. But this week we are very excited to be starting our brand new topic of measurement! With a focus on length, we have started off by practicing the skill of direct comparison by placing objects next to each other and identifying objects that are longer, shorter or the same in length. We used everyday items such as paper, pencils and even shoes! Following this, we spent our afternoon learning about indirect comparison and how we can compare objects using an external item like a piece of string or paper. In small groups we marked our different heights on long strips of paper and labelled these markings with our names and the order from tallest to shortest. We’re really enjoying our new unit of measurement and are doing an amazing job not only comparing different lengths, but using the language of length too!
