What's happening in Italian?

Here we are already at the end of Week 4

In Years 5 and 6, the students are learning new basic vocabulary that supports our Geography unit. Using the Languagenut program, students will engage in interactive activities to practise this new language in a fun and meaningful way. This vocabulary will help students explore Italy by following directions and identifying key geographical features such as cities, mountain ranges, rivers, and volcanoes.

In Years 3 and 4, the students are building new basic vocabulary to support their Geography unit of work. They discovered the countries that border Italy, as well as the two small independent countries within Italy. Students also learnt where Italy’s capital city is located on the map of Italy. They labelled all their new discoveries on a map of Europe.

As part of their Geography learning, the students in Years 1 and 2 have been exploring the shapes of different countries. They discovered the fun fact that Italy is often said to resemble a boot. Using their imaginations, students looked closely at the shapes of Australia, Japan, and Finland, and their creativity shone through! Some saw a boomerang in the shape of Australia, a rabbit in Finland, and even a giraffe in Japan.

Our Prep students are continuing to learn their numbers from 1 to 10 in Italian. They have been practising correct pronunciation through fun counting activities and songs. This week, they also used their cutting and pasting skills to place the numbers in the correct order. To complete the task, students needed to recognise and match the numbers in Italian, an excellent way to reinforce their understanding through hands-on learning.

Alla prossima volta,

Saluti
