A celebration of our creativity
We’d love to invite you to join the Parent Committee for the Art Show, coming up in Term 3.
Some of the tasks parent helpers may be asked to support with include:
Silent Auction – assisting with collaborative class pieces, working alongside myself and our Teacher Art Committee
Meet as a committee to delegate roles
Helping plan or prepare class artwork ideas
Attending a short session to assist students during the creation process
Framing or presenting the final class artwork for display
Collecting or sourcing materials, with plenty of notice and support
Creating a short video of photos showing students creating artwork throughout the year (this will be shown during the evening as a celebration of the creative process)
Setting up and backing up the art show in Term 3
Thank you for your support - we’re looking forward to another fantastic Art Show this year!
Weeks 3 & 4:
Prep
Prep students have commenced creating coral reef sculptures using a variety of materials, including pipe cleaners, Magiclay, and recycled items such as bottle caps, egg carton lids, and yogurt lids. They thoughtfully selected materials to represent different sea life features, resulting in imaginative and vibrant creations.
Year 1/2
Year 1/2 students have been finalizing their Magiclay coral reefs by adding sea creatures and detailing their backgrounds with Sharpies. They have now begun working with clay, drawing inspiration from Australian ceramic artist Danica Wichtermann, known for her intricate carvings of native flora and fauna. Students observed autumn leaves and used clay tools and their hands to form leaf shapes, adding detailed textures to reflect the natural patterns they observed.
Year 3/4
Students have been completing their God's Eye turtles, focusing on mastering the weaving technique of wrapping yarn around paddle pop sticks. While initially challenging, all students successfully learned the technique and expressed pride in their finished work.
Year 5/6
Our Year 5/6 students have been concluding their beeswax wrap projects. After designing their fabric pieces, students applied beeswax, which was then evenly distributed using an iron by a teacher or Learning Support Officer.
They have now transitioned to a new clay project, which has generated considerable excitement. Students were introduced to the work of Courtney Mattison, an artist who creates ceramic installations highlighting the impact of climate change on coral reefs. After viewing a video on this topic, students applied techniques such as slab building, coiling, and pinch pots to create their own miniature coral reefs. The resulting pieces showcase delicate and detailed craftsmanship, reflecting their understanding of both artistic techniques and environmental issues.
