Principal's Report

Dear BEPS community,
A big shout out to our Parents’ Association and the dedicated Mother’s Day team, for their incredible organisation and commitment to providing our students the opportunity to purchase a gift for their loved one last week.
Education Week is an annual celebration of education in Victoria. In 2025, Victoria will celebrate Education Week from Monday 19 May to Friday 23 May. All children deserve a place to learn and thrive in.
This year’s theme 'Celebration of Cultures' highlights the diversity of our communities and the importance of every child feeling safe and welcome at school. Throughout Education Week, students, parents/carers, teachers and school communities are encouraged to celebrate and share ideas to promote the wide range of cultures and cultural connections in Victorian schools.
Our school classrooms will have a special EDUCATION WEEK OPEN AFTERNOON on Thursday 22 May from 3:00 p.m. to 4:15 pm to showcase students' current creative work. We look forward to parents joining us in the classrooms!
Education Support Staff Day - May 16th
Education Support Day is this week. I would like to take this opportunity to recognise the wonderful ES staff that we have at Burwood East Primary School. From the office team, led ably by Vikki, Wendy and Narelle, who ensure the school is welcoming, to the wonderful support staff that we have in the classrooms, Naomi, Jane, Elisa, Kary and Nikki. Your support and care is truly appreciated.
Thank you, everyone.
Education Support Team
The Student Voice Action Team would like to thank you for your kind donations to the ANZAC appeal. We raised a total of $453.80 for Waverley RSL and Box Hill RSL.
The ANZAC appeal continues to support veterans and their families in their time of need.
Last week, our school had 55 students competing at district level in cross country. With a challenging running course and warmer than usual conditions, each race was run with passion and determination from all present. The students from our school ran exceptionally well against fierce competition. From each group, it was pleasing to see Burwood East Primary School achieving their personal best.
Congratulations to one and all, and we wish those students who finished in the top twenty (Sienna S , Paige, Max G, Rainer, Axel, Riva P, Grace Z, Iris, Jayden W, Isabella Y, Sylvia, Advay and Justin) all the best at the divisional level at the end of the month. On the day, it was great to see a new generation of runners who will certainly benefit from Friday’s experience, and as always, we are proud of our competitors and recognise their commitment.
We are delighted to be nominated by The International Education and Partnerships Division (IEPD) to host a visiting international delegation cohort of teachers from Jiangsu, China, coordinated by Jiangsu-Victoria Education Centre (JVEC) which supports sister school relationships by contributing to:
• intercultural understanding within the school community
• increased global awareness and internationalisation within the school community
• opportunities to better understand one’s own culture/country
• personal development of the students e.g. leadership, maturity and independence
• improved ability of students to adjust to different situations
• opportunities for sharing pedagogies and engaging in joint curriculum development
• opportunities for reciprocal travel
• enhancement of the reputation of the school.
The cohort of primary school teachers from Jiangsu will visit Burwood East Primary School on the 20th May from 9.30am to 2.30pm. The group consists of 28 delegates from Taixing City and Shuyang City in Jiangsu, China.
On the day we will showcase our:
- school curriculum
- approach to teaching, learning and assessment
- use of educational technology in school
- teacher professional growth.
NAPLAN
Our preliminary NAPLAN results have arrived at school with individual results arriving later this term, and once we have these we will send them home to families. Our staff will review and analyse this data and use this to inform our future teaching and learning programs.
2024 Annual Report
Our 2024 Annual Report has been approved by the Department of Education and the School Planning and Annual Reporting Unit.
Student Voice
Year 4 – 6 students will complete the annual Attitudes to School Survey between May 19th to 30th.
All government schools must participate in AtoSS, providing the opportunity for students from Year 4 to Year 12 to complete the survey. The survey provides data that helps the department understand student perspectives of their school and to improve the schooling experience. Data collected includes how students feel in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general.
AtoSS is aligned with the department’s Framework for Improving Student Outcomes 2.0. Data from the survey is used to inform school improvement and planning, to support student learning and wellbeing.
Staffing
On behalf of the community, we wish Beth (Year 5) all the best as she begins Family Leave from the 27th of May. After an extensive process to recruit a teacher, we have employed Meejoo Kim to take over from Beth on the 28th of May.
Yours in Partnership,
Darren
