Year 6 - Film Making

Year 6 Film Making Workshop Incursion

Have you ever wondered what it is like to make a movie?

Our Year 6 students had the wonderful opportunity to learn firsthand what it takes to tell a story through the eyes of a camera lens. An appreciation for the time it takes to plan, coordinate and put together a 1 minute scene is now held by our students.

The workshop was run by Michael from Video Essentials, Media Roadshow, who has been in the film making industry for over 30 years.

Here is what some of our students learned about film making:

“You need to have different angles A, B, C and D to get different perspectives in a dialogue scene.”

“You need more than one shot for a scene to build intensity.”

“You need to change your camera angles to capture mood and show the viewer a point of view.”

“Directing is hard when people don’t listen.”

“Filming someone being sneaky is fun and easier than other scenes.”

“You start a scene with an establishing scene, which is a wide shot.”

“It is important to have continuity between shots.”
