Grade 3 - 4

Reading

Students have been working on their comprehension skill of inferring. We have been using a no text picture book called ‘Window’ by Jeannie Baker. Students have been using the clues within the images on each page as well as their prior knowledge on the topics to help infer what the story is about.

Below are some screenshots of the text. Can you guess what the story is about?

Writing

The students have just started Narrative writing again. We are breaking down different writing strategies to help improve our writing skills and make our stories more enthralling. We are currently looking at how to plan for a narrative effectively and how to give our story a sizzling start to capture the reader’s attention and make them want to continue reading.

Maths

The grade 3s and 4s have begun learning about chance and probability in maths. We have been looking into how different events can have different outcomes based on various factors. Students have been investigating how some events can be independent and others dependent on other results.

Humanities

In Humanities we are looking at different cultures and religions all around the world. We have been investigating different beliefs and symbols that they have and how they differ and relate to each of our own religions.

Dance

This term the 3s and 4s have started dance classes once a week. In these sessions they are learning a routine for our school's Christmas concert. Some have been going out of their comfort zones and into unfamiliar territory during these sessions, but within the first 2 weeks there has already been considerable improvement by all.
