Grade 2

Reading

This week we have been looking at the book, ‘Don’t let the pigeons drive the bus’. We have loved reading this book because it is funny and very persuasive. Throughout the week we looked at the main characters and their personality traits. We also learned to describe their physical appearance and identify different persuasive techniques within the text. During our fluency pairs we participated in a Reader’s Theatre, where we had the opportunity to act out the book in front of our peers.

Writing

This week in our writing sessions we have begun our work on persuasive texts. We revisited the structure of a persuasive text using OREO. We have also looked at different types of persuasive devices to improve the quality of our writing. These included rhetorical questions, exaggerations and high modality words.

Mathematics

In our mathematics sessions we have revised time and calendars. We have been learning to read and interrupt a calendar and tell time to the quarter hour. We created our own clocks and calendars. Over the next few weeks we will be looking at our place value skills to ensure we are ready for year 3!

Swimming & Dance Lessons

Over the last fortnight we have had the opportunity to participate in swimming and dance lessons. All of the grade 2 students have thoroughly enjoyed these experiences and have grown closer as a Learning Community.
