Boarders of the Week

Congratulations to Jai Fujii, Corey Anderson, Ferdi Osborne, Connor Ryan,  Addison Hujbert, Sarah-May Nona, Serai See Kee and Gabriella Samarua who were named Boarder of the Week for their respective residences over the past few weeks. This is always a popular award, and one held in high esteem by staff and students.

Sunday night Mass 

Excluding free and exeat weekends, the boarding community celebrates Sunday night Mass in the chapel at 7pm. This is a compulsory event for our boarders and, therefore, we expect all boarders to return to the College on a Sunday night by 5:30pm. This allows them to be present for the roll call and dinner at 6pm. 

Exeat weekend 

The boarding community is currently enjoying the Term1 exeat weekend. Thank you to all families for submitting leave requests and organising the details of the weekend. A reminder that boarding will reopen from 4pm on Sunday afternoon. Students returning on Monday morning should have let their respective head of residence know before departing for the weekend.

Communicating with heads of residence

As mentioned in the welcoming letters from our heads of residence, they value open communication from parents and carers. The best time to reach them is between 8:30am and 9:30am weekdays. The heads are extremely busy at the start of the morning and after school and this is not an ideal time to talk. Alternatively, an email may be preferable and they will reply at their earliest convenience. When discussing topics such as leave requests and/or information about your children, heads of residence should be the first point of contact.

Thursday afternoon activities

There's been a great start to our Thursday afternoon boarding activities program. This term our students will be involved in six different activities: gym, volleyball, basketball, cooking, Ultimate Frisbee and pottery.

Country visits and dinners 

We look forward to continuing our visits to our families throughout the country and spending time with them. The boarding community will be busy next term visiting the Tablelands, Weipa and PNG. We look forward to catching up with our families in these places and also meeting many others in these communities.

Saturday outings 

Seventy boarders had an enjoyable free weekend recently. The morning consisted of rollerblading, followed by swimming and ball games in the hall in the afternoon. We also ventured to Palm Cove last Saturday, with 120 boarders thoroughly enjoying their day.

Laundry returns 

I encourage our students and families to ensure that laundry numbers are clearly labelled on all clothing. The boarding program relies heavily on an external laundry, and clearly marking clothes is vital to ensure they are efficiently returned.
