SAINTS SPORT

News from Matt Di Salvo

Head of Sport

It has been a busy start to Saints Sport in 2024 with training and competition ramping up for what promises to be a big year in sport. Record numbers have attended sports team trials, giving our coaches many good selection headaches to begin the year.

Our CISSA teams played a friendly round to work on their combinations to start the season before our official Round 1 fixtures start in Week 6 against Peace Lutheran College. Meanwhile, St Augustine’s AFL, Bill Turner, hockey and rugby league teams have all trialled and begun their training in preparation for our upcoming season.  Good luck to our teams as we start our competitions.

TCC Sport

Congratulations to all St Augustine’s students who have been successful so far in their TCC district sport trials, please ensure that sac.absences@cns.catholic.edu.au is notified of any student absences for the TCC and Peninsula trials. The full procedure is outlined, below.

St Augustine's is a part of the Trinity Coast Central (TCC) district within school sport. TCC is the pathway to represent the Peninsula region in Queensland School Sport Championships. The TCC sign-up process is electronic with students able to register their interest for the trials by completing a Microsoft Form from their accounts. This will ensure that a parent slip is sent home before the trials with the necessary paperwork. These forms can/are then to be reuploaded to the parent slip with permission attached for approval by Mr Seivers. Alternatively, please email the forms to me at sac.sport@cns.catholic.edu.au if you have any difficulties reuploading the form to the parent slip. Please refer to the 2024 TCC calendar for trial information.

The Saints TCC application process is outlined below.

  1. Students complete the TCC Sport Microsoft Form from their accounts to register their interests in their chosen TCC sports. If students wish to trial for more than two sports in a calendar year, they must apply by emailing me. I will seek an exemption from Mr Seivers.
  2. Before the trials, a parent slip will be sent home with documents attached for completion to grant permission for your son to attend the trials.
  3. Parent/guardians are to complete the Peninsula student permission details and consent form and upload it to the parent slip. This form must be submitted before completing the parent slip. Alternatively, this form can be sent to sac.sport@cns.catholic.edu.au
  4. The college will ensure that Mr Seivers signs the document. Students will then collect the signed document from the student office and take it to their trials.
  5. Students must have this booklet completed to be allowed to trial for a TCC team.

Students no longer need to complete a Request for Leave form if they are absent from school for TCC or Peninsula school-based sport. However, parents/guardians must  email sac.absences@cns.catholic.edu.au to advise of the upcoming school sport related absence. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that he contacts his teachers about any work that he may miss on these days, keeping up to date with classwork and submitting any assignments due while absent. If a student makes the Peninsula team, they are entitled to approved leave for the duration of the carnival as well as a travel day either side. Any additional days of absence may be classified as unapproved leave.
