CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week in Writing, we are learning about narratives.

Orientation: How the story began.

Initiating Events: What kicks off the story, what happens to the characters; what is the problem they begin to face

Direct Consequence/Resolution: How the problem was solved.

Ending: How the story ended. What did the characters do after they solved the problem?

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Ask your child to write a narrative based on this prompt, following the structure and guiding questions.

This week, focus on creating an exciting ending! Endings of a story leave an impact on the reader, either being an ending where you learn a moral of the story/the theme/what the author wanted you to learn from reading the story OR leaves it on a cliffhanger, where it's exciting, leaving it open to possibilities for future events. These endings can be happy or sad, expected or unexpected or circular, where it brings it back to the beginning of the story. Maybe even write a couple of exciting endings and choose your favourite one!
