Dear Families,
Lest we forget
Last Friday I reflected on how timely it is that one of our garden beds was filled with poppies that had opened just in time for Remembrance Day. Mrs Hinds took members of our student leadership to show them and I wanted to include a photo for you all. What a wonderful coincidence!
On Friday, the school came together for our Remembrance Liturgy, a poignant event led by our Social Justice Leaders. Together, we paused to honour the history of Remembrance Day, a day that holds profound significance in recognising the sacrifices made for global peace and freedom.
Following the Liturgy, we gathered at our flag poles for the tradition of laying wreaths. As I observed rows of students, standing together in solemnity, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. Despite the hot sun and the fidgeting of our younger members, it presented a perfect opportunity to impart a crucial message.
Remembrance Day serves as a solemn reminder of the brave individuals who willingly gave their lives in the pursuit of a world where peace and freedom prevail. We remembered the selfless service of those who served during World Wars I and II and all conflicts since, acknowledging that many did so without a choice, much like the countless individuals who presently serve their countries.
I urged the students to take a few moments of reflection, to remember not only those from the past but also those currently living in conflict. I asked them to keep these individuals in their thoughts and prayers. I extend this request to our wider school community.
School Uniform
It has been noticed that there are a number of students wearing incorrect items of uniform. Please be mindful that we do have a clear outline of what uniform students need to be wearing for summer and winter as well as the difference between sport and every day uniform. The biggest item that stands out at the moment is shoes. On days when students are not participating in sport lessons, they are expected to be wearing black shoes that can be polished. Black leather runners are acceptable but they must be plain black, no logos or colours.
We are also a Sunsmart school which means during terms 1 and 4, a school hat must be worn. We have two styles available and both provide protection from the sun. Other hats are not permitted to be worn.
Summer Uniform:
Royal/Grey/Maroon/White check dress with maroon piping or navy blue skort with short sleeve maroon polo, dark maroon windcheater or bomber jacket, navy short socks, black shoes
or
Navy shorts or long navy trousers, maroon polo shirt, dark maroon windcheater or bomber jacket, navy socks and black shoes.
If, for any reason your child needs to attend school in a non-uniform item, it must be temporary and accompanied by a note from a parent. Uniform will be checked and letters sent home for students who are consistently out of uniform.
i sea i care ambassadors
I have had the pleasure of going on a number of excursions this year, Gumbuya World with the Grade 4s and Melbourne Zoo with the Prep/1 students. It is always a pleasure to do this, as I get to see the children in a different environment and watch them learning and asking questions. On Tuesday, I joined the i sea i care ambassadors and Caitlin Hall on their last excursion for the year. The team have had the privilege of working with the Dolphin Research Institute to develop their understanding of why our waterways need protecting. They have taught the younger students as well as hosted World Ocean Day. Our cruise to Seal Rocks didn't quite go as planned, the sea was far too rough and it was quite windy (as you can tell in one of the photos) but we did get to see parts of Phillip Island that you don't by road and some playful seals in their natural habitat.
Canteen News
Please note that the canteen will be closed for the last 3 weeks of term - all of December. Lyn will be on leave for this time and we hope she has a wonderful break! Please don't place orders for your child's lunch during these weeks.
Have a great weekend!
