Thank you Mr Murphy

Having worked closely with Kevin over the last few years, as both a member of College Council and also as a parent, I felt it was important I acknowledged Kevin’s impact and legacy on our school in this small way.

When I heard the news yesterday that Kevin was leaving our school, it obviously came as a shock, however I quickly pulled myself together and congratulated him on a fantastic promotion; it is much deserved and I wish him every success.

Kevin has put together a very strong leadership team at our school so I fully expect everything to run just as smoothly when he transitions to his new role.

Kevin, I’d simply like to say thank you

  • for being open about your own family’s situation in navigating secondary school (it shows you also understand what it’s like being a parent).
  • for being so forward thinking,
  • for how you maximise every opportunity to develop our school,
  • for your drive to help deliver the funding for our exciting new Gym and Performing Arts space,
  • for the mostly hidden after-hours time you commit to the school and students, and
  • for everything else that I have taken for granted until now.

Thank you, specifically, for supporting the developmental assessment model and celebrating our students growth as well as academic achievement. I am definitely seeing the benefits of this approach and looking forward to its continued progress after you move on.

I believe there may be a couple of opportunities next year, for anyone who doesn’t get the opportunity this year, to wish Kevin well in his new role. In particular, I know how committed Kevin is to the iCan Challenge 50km walk to raise money for the Royal Children's Hospital, so I expect to see him there.  There will be much more information about how you can support the iCan Challenge, early next year.

While I have this opportunity, I’d like to thank all Teachers and Staff for a great year.  I wish those that are leaving us all the very best for their future and everyone a very happy, safe and restful Christmas period, so that you are raring to go into 2024.
