International Men's Day

Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships

On Sunday 19 November, International Men’s Day was celebrated worldwide bringing awareness to the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities. It was a day to highlight positive role-models and raise awareness of men’s well-being. The theme for 2023 is 'Zero Male Suicide'. Together we can stop male suicide.

November has become synonymous with several events that are important to men's wellbeing and health, such as Movember. It's the month we focus on raising awareness and money for men’s health. November 20 was International Children's Day which forms 48 hours of celebration for men and children, and the special relationship they share. Hence, we have plenty of reasons to celebrate International Men’s Day.

International Men’s Day encourages men to teach the boys in their lives the values, character and responsibilities of being a man. Mahatma Gandhi said, “We must become the change we seek.” It is only when we all (both men and women) lead by example that we will create a fair and safe society that allows everyone the opportunity to prosper.

International Men’s Day is an opportunity for people everywhere of goodwill to appreciate and celebrate the men in their lives and the contribution they make to society for the greater good of all.

To celebrate the theme, we held a male staff vs male students volleyball game at lunch time on Thursday 30 November, under the watchful eye of Assistant Principal, Natalie Manser. The energy was high, the competition fierce. Spectators were on the edge of their seats with a final result that could not be separated - both teams tied up in the third set 12-12! Thank you to the Year 10 Boys Volleyball team, for your involvement and enthusiasm, and the amazing staff who volunteered their time and put their skills on show.
