Level Happenings

Foundation

We cannot believe that Term 3 has come to an end! We have reflected on all we have achieved and the growth we have made at school so far. So many things to be proud of!

Our reading fluency has been a highlight in literacy. Students are reading a passage over the week with a partner and taking it in turns to read and track their reading. This week, the passage had golden words, CVC words, and our ‘floss’ words which we have been learning. Additionally, we are building our reading stamina.

A highlight was seeing our buddies for the last time this term. They put on a phenomenal talent show!! We laughed at hilarious jokes, applauded fantastic dances and singers, and even witnessed some magic tricks! It was lovely seeing confident performers who were having fun.

What an amazing day it was celebrating Footy Day on Thursday. We loved the fun spirit it brought. We enjoyed learning which teams people support in our class and discussed the value of sportsmanship and why this is important in all sports. Students tried their best to kick as far as they could in the kick competition. We even designed our own cool, creative footy tops and made names for what we could call our hypothetical footy teams!

We are excited to what the new term will bring and look forward to seeing everyone refreshed after the holiday break.

Level 1/2 Happenings

Welcome to the last week of Term 3!!

Once again, we are super proud of all that our Level 1 and 2 students have achieved this term.

A highlight for the Level 1’s last week was our visit from Jayde and the Channel 10 weather crew. What a fun and engaging way to wrap up our weather focus for Science.

The Level 2 students had a fantastic day on Tuesday, showing great team work and resilience in the different activities on offer at their Fun Day.

Students worked together in a mixture of teams on different tasks that involved strong communication, encouragement of peers and resilience when things perhaps got a bit tricky!

Kaboom was a highlight for many students. The Kaboom team ran a fabulous session in the stadium which saw all Level 2 students being active in a range of target practice challenges, using balancing skills and instruction within their team. They of course had fun having a dance across the session as well!

After lunch students had some much needed relaxation time where watched Finding Nemo (a unanimous choice amongst the students). The teachers were most impressed with the manners and patience students displayed when it came to snack and our special lunch time.

Students had lots of fun in the Level 2 photobooth. If they haven't brought them home already, their special photo is on its way!

Level 3/4 Happenings

Our recent direct speech writing session in Levels 3 and 4 was truly engaging and enlightening. We learned the art of bringing characters to life through their words, making our stories more vivid. Understanding when to use quotation marks and how to punctuate dialogue correctly was a challenge we embraced. We also discovered the power of dialogue tags to convey emotions and character traits.

Sharing our creative conversations was the highlight, as we laughed, empathized, and marvelled at each other's stories. This session not only improved our writing skills but also strengthened our communication and listening abilities. We're excited to apply what we've learned in our future writing endeavours, making our narratives more dynamic and engaging.

Level 5/6 Happenings

Last week the Sustainability Leaders attended the 18th Annual School's Sustainability Fair. The event was a fantastic day of celebration and learning focused on ways to preserve our planet, for the future. Haileybury presented a version of Miley Cyrus’ Flowers about packing Nude Food lunches. Gardenvale Primary quizzed us on local birds. SEPS leaders conducted a litter race for students to sort waste into the appropriate bins. We also shared some cool facts and information about recycling to help promote effective and mindful waste practices. Did you know that putting litter into the wrong bin contaminates the entire bin and prevents anything from being recycled? For example, an oily pizza box needs to be composted while the clean lid may be recycled. Have you heard of Recycle Smart? It’s an App you can get that allows you to have soft plastics and other obscure items collected from your home for the necessary recycling schemes. Every little thing we do, makes a difference.

Grade 5 and 6 have been staging debates in their classrooms, as part of their literacy work on persuasive writing. Classroom teachers have been impressed by the way students have stepped outside their comfort zones. The students have also said they are proud of their ability to speak in front of their peers. Congratulations to everyone who took part and tried their best.

Finally, we have been reflecting on our highlights and achievements this term. Additionally, we are thinking ahead to our goals for next term. There are many personal successes to celebrate and lots to aspire to. We hope everyone enjoys a much-needed rest over the holidays, ready to tackle term 4 with tenacity and resilience.
