Understanding the Significance of Catholic Confirmation
We hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits. We would like to shed light on a pivotal milestone in your child's faith journey - the Catholic Confirmation.
On the 11th of October the Year Six students from OLHC, SFX, HT and the Parish Candidates went to St. Patrick's Cathedral to practise for Confirmation which is taking place at St. Patrick’s Cathedral this Sunday, 15th October 2023.
Please keep all the Year Six students, their sponsors and their families in your prayers as they continue in their Catholic Faith journey.
What is Confirmation?
Confirmation is one of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church. It is a profound and sacred event that marks the strengthening of your child's faith and their full initiation into the Christian community. Through the anointing with holy oil, the Holy Spirit is bestowed upon them, providing strength and guidance as they navigate their spiritual path.
The Importance of Preparation
Preparation for Confirmation is a crucial period for your child. It's a time for them to deepen their understanding of the faith, to reflect on their personal relationship with God, and to discern how they can live out the Gospel teachings in their daily lives.
Choosing a Sponsor
A sponsor is a key figure in the Confirmation process. This person serves as a mentor, guiding your child through their faith journey. They should be a practising Catholic, at least 16 years old, and someone who exemplifies the values and teachings of the Church. The Year Six children have selected a sponsor who will be a positive influence and a source of inspiration.

The actual Confirmation ceremony is a beautiful and solemn occasion. It is typically held during a special Mass presided over by a bishop. This emphasises the universal nature of the Church, and the bishop's presence symbolises the wider community's support for your child's spiritual growth.
