From the Acting Principal

Term 4 Week 2

Dear Parents and Carers,

Confirmation

This week the Year 6 students visited St Patrick's Cathedral to prepare for their Sacrament of Confirmation which will be held this Sunday October 15th at 2:30pm. As is now tradition, we will join with the students of the other two schools, St. Francis Xavier, Montmorency and Holy Trinity Eltham North, to receive the sacrament as members of the Parish of Risen Christ, which encompasses the church communities of Eltham and Montmorency. The cathedral is an inspiring structure and should leave the Year 6s with some long lasting memories.

Working Bee

After a couple of years in hibernation due to covid, a working bee has been added to the school events schedule for Saturday 11th November.  School Advisory Council member Mark Lafferty is coordinating the effort to get as many parents as possible to come along on the day to help spruce up the school grounds.

A range of tasks including cleaning up leaf litter, mulch spreading, retaining wall repairs, weeding, pruning and planting will take place. The highlight of the projects to be undertaken will be the installation of the two new mud kitchen kits that were purchased with the fundraising from the PFOL Pie Drive back in August.

For families that have not experienced an OLHC style working bee, children are welcome to attend, with the understanding that they are under the supervision of their parents. Please bring along wheelbarrows, blowers, general gardening tools and plenty of enthusiasm. Working Bees have been an integral part of the school community. They are a great opportunity to get to know other parents and have a free workout at the same time. We hope to see plenty of you there on the day so please keep your eyes open for further information in the coming weeks

School Advisory Council Update

Thanks to SAC member Catherine Donoghue, we have been successful in two applications for special community grants for the school. She volunteered at the beginning of the year to take the lead as the SAC member who helps the school source funding for extra little projects to add to our learning environment or help build links to the community.

Firstly, we were successful in receiving funds from the Nillumbik Council for the 16 days of activism project with a submission based around purchasing library resources to support learning on stopping gender based violence. While Catherine's submission on our behalf was approved, Norah Jacombs our Student Wellbeing Leader was also successful in getting her submission to produce a calendar approved for the same grant.

The second grant Catherine was successful in applying for, was the Eltham Community Festive Fund project.  Our application was for the decoration of the school's Main Street facing garden and fence with solar powered festive lights and messages of reflection of the past year and hope for the year ahead on corflute board and the electronic sign. Thanks to the Nillumbik Council for their support of our projects and we look forward to lighting up the gateway to Eltham.

Events

2 Dream Music Concert Tuesday 24th October in the School Hall, starting at 2:10pm. This concert is being put on by the students who participate in the extra curricular music and dance classes conducted on a Tuesday afternoon by 2 Dream Music and Wellbeing. There will be a mix of drumming, guitar and dance. We welcome not only parents and carers of the students performing, but any other members of the community that may be interested.

Regards,
