Writing
This term in Writing, the Grade 3 & 4 students will be writing Persuasive pieces focusing on advertisements - we will be looking into the techniques and language used in them to persuade the audience. Students will also be creating Procedural pieces where they will be looking into the structure and language features as well as writing their own.
Reading
This term in Reading, the Grade 3 & 4 students are participating in various author studies. Throughout these author studies, students learn about where the author came from and their background. After studying the author, each class then studies a particular novel. Throughout these novel studies, students analyse certain chapters. They practise all of the comprehension strategies and look deeper into the characters and the plot of the narrative.
Mathematics
This term in Mathematics, Grade 3 and 4 students will focus on volume and capacity concepts. They will delve into understanding and working with measurements related to the amount of space inside containers and learn how to compare different capacities. Students will then focus on money whereby they will acquire valuable skills in handling money and receiving change. They will also explore fractions and decimals, focusing on modelling and representing various fractions and conducting investigations into equivalent fractions, further enhancing their mathematical proficiency.
Wellbeing
During the fourth term, students in grades 3 and 4 will continue their engagement in weekly activities centred around the Resilience Project. These activities will integrate elements from the Resilience, Rights, and Respectful Relationships toolkit. The primary focus of these lessons will remain on nurturing and enhancing students' personal and social skills, fostering qualities such as empathy, mindfulness, and gratitude. This holistic approach aims to shape our students into compassionate and considerate contributors to our school community.
Grade 3/4 Inquiry
In our Physical Sciences unit students will explore how heat can be produced and can move from one object to another. Students will plan and conduct scientific investigations to find answers to questions, considering the safe use of appropriate materials and equipment.
In our Civics & Citizenship unit students are introduced to key aspects of democratic decision making and how decisions make an impact on people's lives. They will learn that rules are set for safety, fairness and inclusion. Students will draw on personal experiences and familiar contexts to understand that democracy is ruled by the people and rules have a place in the community.
Visual Arts
This term in Visual Arts, students in Year 3 will explore the medium, Threads and Textiles. They will create imaginative artworks using ‘running stitch’ to sew various designs, as well as learning to weave threads using a circular loom.
Students will investigate Printmaking, creating stencil prints as they discover positive and negative shapes and lighter and darker colours. They will continue to discuss the materials and techniques used to make their artworks and they will reflect on the process as well as the completed product.
Students in Year 4 will explore the medium, Threads and Textiles. They will create imaginative artworks using ‘running stitch’ to sew various designs, as well as using their ‘mathematical mind’ to create radial string art patterns. Students will investigate Printmaking, creating stencil prints as they discover positive and negative shapes and lighter and darker colours. They will continue to discuss the materials and techniques used to make their artworks and they will reflect on the process as well as the completed product.
Performing Arts
This term Grade 3 and 4 students will explore the concept of narrative structure and character development when they work in small groups to create a variety of short plays. Students will develop skills in improvisation and team work when given a variety of stimulus as a starting point to creating their own short performances to share to their peers. Towards the end of the term students will begin rehearsal for our Kismet Christmas Carols picnic which will showcase performances from all year levels.
Japanese
This term in Japanese the Year 3/4 students are developing their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills through the topic “In my school bag”. They are learning stationery vocabulary through a variety of activities and games. The students will be supported to make a stationery mini book where they will read and write simple Japanese words and sentences using hiragana (Japanese alphabet). The students will focus on forming the hiragana characters using correct stroke order.
The 3/4 students will learn about the cultural event, Health and Sports Day held in Japan and participate in a scavenger hunt to celebrate this event. They will work with partners to locate Japanese colours and hiragana characters around the schoolyard.
PE
This term the students will be focussing on playing in a team using a ball. Students will be encouraged to share the ball, display good sportsmanship and listen to an umpire. Games will include Netball, Basketball and Soccer.
